I think you mean "My brother and I."
You need to report to fire junior grammar school.

For goodness sakes, give the kid a break. Since when is grammar a necessity on BigSoccer?

Hey, we're not debating the (de)merits of split infinitives here. As written English, "me and my brother" ceases being acceptable after 3rd grade or so.

At any rate ... I'm not sure how this guy can be "on" Fire Juniors, since the first teams are to be launched next autumn.

Ok smart guys...my brother and I! HAPPY?! Oh and yes, we are on the team because they already had tryouts and have made the teams up. Hey guys, if you feel like dissing someone because of their grammar go to grammarforums.com or something because it is just really obnoxious.

Sorry, kid, I was an English major. I just can't help it.

Congratulations on making the team. Now some questions -

    1) How many teams is the Fire sponsoring? What ages?

    2) How many kids at tryouts?

    3) What's your estimate on the quality of the team that you joined? What division (I presume the team will be in NISL) do you think the team will be playing at?

    4) What's the coaching situation? How about training? How frequent will be the training?

Any and all answers will be appreciated. Write it anyway you want, and I promise I won't say a peep about your grammar. :)

We have to do something about the kid putting ManUre ahead of the FIRE as a favorite team.

Time to go back to school. Your grammar is not quite up to snuff.

    1) ..teams ARE... (not is)
    2) ..kid WERE at... (missing)
    3)..playing IN...(not at)
    4) Who are ya, Yoda?

    :)

    Es Brennt -

    1) I treated the Chicago Fire as a singular entity. As in "The Chicago Fire plays in Naperville." The plural version would be "The Chicago Fire play in Naperville."

I suspect that a dictionary would permit either usage. Certainly, in practice, sports organizations are sometimes referred to in singular and sometimes in plural.

    2) "How many kids at tryouts" is shorthand. You might not like it, but it's a bit different than outright incorrect grammar.

    3) "At what division will you be playing" strikes me as being every bit as correct as "In what division will you be playing." I don't think your criticism is on target in this instance, although you could whack me around if you liked for ending the sentence with a preposition.

    4) Your point I do not understand.

But I don't want to take this too far ... I'm not a grammar purist, and I certainly could be taken to task by a true grammarian.

    Re: John Rekenthaler

In your sentence the subject is "The Chicago Fire," and the direct object is "teams" (in that "teams" receive the sponsorship [or action] of the subject). Thus the verb should fittingly be plural as it references the plural "teams." As in "How many teams are the Fire sponsoring?"

The third-person, singular form of the verb "to be" could work in the following examples:

    - The Chicago Fire is sponsoring teams. (in this case, one would suppose that the Fire, as an organization, is singular)

    - Is the Fire organization sponsoring teams? If so, how many? (again, this is using the crude, American standard of referring to a sporting team as a singular subject. Note how this multi-sentence example is ideal for also learning the number of teams that are receiving the sponsorship of the Fire)

.... or you could just use the sentence structure that I heard in Columbus last year when we repeatedly chanted: "You are live in suck town now!"

Excuse me, is this "New Grammar" (a la New Math)?

Unless the rules have changed, the verb must agree with the subject, not the object.

OK, OK, I'm overdosed on grammar.

Now, back to the question ... 60 Fire Junior teams next year, says Peter Wilt. Most won't be at the Academy level, although I don't know exactly what he means by that.

But how good will the Academy teams be, I wonder? Also have several other questions about the program, as evidenced by the earlier questions.

    Any and all answers appreciated.

I am on the academy team and I think we have a very good team. Not good enough to beat the magic/sockers. Although, I am a U15 so we don't do the NISL. Lots of guys at tryout though. I played for the Wheaton Wings and we just kind of merged into the team. So I am not sure about what leagues/tourneys yet because we won't play for a while. And I find that people correcting JohnR'a grammar is hilarious.
