The "Special One" is out at Roma! And we JUST hired Klopas. Too bad, we could have had a La Liga, EPL (which sucks), Serie A, Premiera League, multiple time Champions League winner ...and an all-around "awesome guy." I am sure he would.have jumped at the chance to restore the Chicago Fire to greatness. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67990821
Alex Morgan did not deserve a Best XI, not this past year. Sure she started every competitive match,.but was basically a non-entity in the World Cup. She had 2 goals in 15 matches for the USWNT in 2023. That is simply not good enough for the starting striker on a world.clasd squad. That is below Kacper-level production She was good in NWSL, but didn't set the league ablaze.
There are significant segments of this country that can only view the USWNT through rose colored lenses and recollections of what happened before. It is entirely unsurprising that someone with links to "what happened before" is selected no matter what they didn't do this time. It sure looked like the last world cup performance was basically on par with where they'd been in friendlies for a couple years.....yet the press was certain the event was ours to lose and everyone was "shocked" at the results. The only way you could be shocked if if you hadn't actually been watching the previous matches.
No argument there. I am sure you (like me) were not shocked that the USWNT did not perform that well in the World Cup. We could see it coming a mile away. I didn't think they would be that bad, but I was not at all surprised they did not make it very far. That said, Emma Hayes is the absolute correct choice to rebuild the team.
I am not sure Messi deserved the FIFA Top Male Award. Haagland (who plays in the EPL which sucks) had an recorded setting year with goals and hardware. It appears FIFA likes to market reputations.
