Add Teran to this, subtract incremental INTL tag purchases.

Franco doesn't cost $1.6m+ transfer fee if that's what you're saying

If you swapped Zinckernagel's numbers with Bamba's, and just took Acosta off the list entirely, I would think this was a very well built roster.

Pete (mostly thinks that anyway, and that's a lot better than in the past)

Sorry you are probably right, I thought his contract expires next June, but it appears to be 2027. Although I do believe they can now negotiate a lower transfer fee due to injury.

    André |Franco | Midfield |$650,000 |$697,083

    https://meninred97.com/fire-confirm-andre-franco-loan-arrival/#google_vignette
“The Fire are not paying a loan fee to Porto and have an option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season, with a pre-arranged fee in the ballpark of $1.4 million US (€1,2 million). That acquisition fee is low enough that if activated, Franco can remain a Target Allocation Money (TAM) player”

Hypothesizing 3yr deal vs 2+1, the fee amount matters.
    3yr deal: 1.4/3=0.467 + .650 = 1.17 would be ‘low TAM’ at 300kTAM
    2yr deal: 1.4/2=0.7 + .650 = 1.35 would be ‘mid TAM’ at $550k TAM

The injury may open the door for a lower fee…let’s say it’s meaningful…and the fee is half.

    3yr deal: .7/3=0.233 + .650 = .883 would be near zero TAM
    2yr deal: .7/2=0.35 + .650 = 1.0 would be ‘low TAM’ at $150k TAM

It’s a lot for someone that won’t play ‘at a high level’ until next fall….but we have shown ourselves to be comfortable carrying a couple guys like that in recent history…so I suspect we will sign him.

I was aware of MIR numbers. Overseas sources initially were quoting $1.5 million Euros which would be about $1,650,000. I used the higher number just to be safe and because it is still a great bargain.
The ultimate salary budget hit will be influenced greatly by the contract terms. Is it a 2 or 3 or even 4 year deal? Rumors mentioned a 3+ year contract. Is the guaranteed compensation $600,000 or $900,000?
The Salary Budget Charge could conceivably have been below TAM or as high as Max TAM, although the extremes were unlikely.
The injury introduces an additional level of uncertainty. Is it kosher to renegotiate the deal with the seller? Is some sort of conditional upon recovery sale possible? When should payment be tendered? Because Franco has a valid contract with Porto and (presumably) made a major concession on his Fire option already ( his salary last 3 years at Porto reported as $1,000,000 per), it is assumed he will not be willing to make further concessions.
He was looking like the perfect fit and I am still mourning his injury but hopeful that he fully recovers and that a satisfactory solution is found enabling him to join the Fire.

Yea, the reported $697k guaranteed comp could be a prorated amount of a larger annual number...don't know.
That said, I think it is fair to say it's likely he would require 'some TAM'...and would certainly not need to be a DP.

Sure looking like we will be able to add Franco, 1 TAM and 1 DP for next year...which would make this roster meaningfully stronger!

As best as I can determine/guess, it goes like this. Porto bought him 7-2022 and he signed a 5 year contract at equivalent of $1,000,000 per year. In order to put this loan with option to buy together, Franco agreed to reduce his salary at Porto for last 2 years to amount shown on MLS Salary Guide ($650,000 salary/ $697,083 guar. comp). This was part of the inducement for Porto to accept a very low acquisition fee (well established that Porto paid $4,500,000). The Fire required the low acquisition fee and “ average” salary for them to make the deal. This was all part of a deal projected as “100% likely” to happen. And then there was this injury….

IMO, the three largest Salary Budget Charge decisions this year-end are:
    1)Potential Buyout- Acosta $1.628 million
    2) Option to Buy- Kouame $1.394 est.million
    3) Option to Buy- Franco $ 1.197 est.million
What do you think Fire should do? What do you think Fire will do?
( notice I said Budget Charges, not real $).

Not sure you meant specifically me when you said 'you'...but...
    1) Unless Acosta magically delivers MaxTAM performance(s) in the remaining playoff game(s)...we need to move on.

    2) I had reasonable high hopes for Kuoame, and then was distracted by how much faster D'avilla found his game and some chemistry with the team. Seems Kuoame may have not had a full trial, as he was injured for a bit, but when you get to see the type of immediate impact Franco had (at a lower cost)...we should move on.

    3) Franco is clearly worth the price tag...the question is can we find an equivalent cost player that can start in Feb? A decent approach may be to view it as an investment, sign him, and then put him on IR so we don't take the salary budget hit (from Feb to fall when he will be rehabbing). Would love to (eventually) have what he brought to the squad against Cbus and the Loons.

Thank you. Questions were addressed to you and also everybody else. Those are all difficult, significant situations. Potentially, I could see answers ranging from keep all three to move all three and every combination in between.
As a minimum, IMO, Fire needs to acquire a MaxTAM to DP midfielder. This is a given need no matter what decisions are made about these three. Especially given Gutierrez sale rumors. The other mandatory need is a backup striker who can score.
Other acquisitions, if any, would probably involve positional upgrades.
The large impact of these decisions will almost certainly shape roster activity.

I am in the mindset of Acosta should go...Kouame I would keep for ~200k..if significantly higher..go...and Franco would be auto resign but for the injury...since I do not know how long he would be out...I cannot say.

Reports say July 1 is earliest date but it might not be until playoffs.
Based upon this, what do you think?
Kouame option is way higher so I am thinking you said NO to Kouame..

I do not think I would sign him to a tam contract. I do not trust what injuries can do to a skilled player. Shame too because damn he was good in his short time. That aside..I suspect they Will resign him and then hopefully he comes back better then ever.

I’m not sure you could assess Acosta after tonight’s game unless you’re saying we lose when we don’t play him…
