http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...-seven-year-shirt-deal-beginning-in-2014.aspx Will the new shirt have the bow tie?
Rumored to be worth around 28m pounds a year. The GM boss has stepped down meaning that it was probably a better deal for us than for them. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...nsorship-deal-with-US-carmaker-Chevrolet.html
well not the "boss" of GM but the global marketing chief. does our deal with Nike expire during 14/15 or is it the year after?
Hearing rumours that it is worth anything between 28 to 35 million per year including the Car sponsorship. Pretty good chance that we got a major chunk of that upfront, hence the commitment for 7 years in advance and also the sacking of the marketing manager.
Wow, I can already imagine that logo on our shirt. Anyone know any other teams with Chevy on the front?
Pretty well could be. Won't surprise me if we do the kit deal quicker too now and get a chunk of that upfront.
Not off the top of my head. If we got the Chevy logo without the word chevrolet underneath, the potential for great kits is HUGE. Even with the word, so long as it is understated, I like our chances.
Two things to consider - A. We are the only club to have a training kit sponsor (DHL ~ 10M annually) B. We were already investigating secondary sponsors on the shirt (see F1 jerseys for inspiration). I wonder whether GM agreed to that. If so, it is a horrible horrible deal for them.
They apparently agreed to just have their Logo on our Jersey's and not the Name. Not sure it's a exclusive sponsorship though. Among the criticisms of the transaction was that the sponsorship did not appear to include Chevrolet’s name on the jerseys of the soccer club’s players. Unlike the major American sports, advertising is a prominent feature of soccer uniforms, giving the sponsors what are essentially kicking and running billboards for television cameras and photographers. http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-gm-ewanick-fired-20120730,0,1002620.story
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/07/30/uk-gm-manu-idUKBRE86T13220120730 Reuters saying it is worth 40 million pounds a year + 100 million dollars activation fee on top of that. That's crazy from Chevy's side if true.
If this is true, this is even more ridiculous than the DHL training kit deal, which was already insane.
I'm sitting here in my office trying to look studious and I see that gif. Completely lost it, busted out laughing.
Mr. Arnold, you ecrtainly earned your 10% raise this past year. I know I'm going to get hate for this, but credit must go to the Glazers on this one.
That is absolutely brilliant business by the Glazers. They forced a deal so good that Chevy fired their marketing guy. That says enough. I do hope the logo isn't anywhere large/noticeable on the kit - it's just too American for me, as stupid as that sounds.
They cant use the name only logo, companies dont fire for over payment as that would be approved by the board, its some details that wasnt made clear or hidden that got him fired imo.
For that amount of money, I wouldn't even be mad if they made our third kit chevy yellow and forced Phelan to become the yellow bowtie mascot every game. 40 million pounds a year plus 100 million dollars activation is a farce. Then again, I'm absolutely sure when it is all said and done it will have been well worth it for them aswell. Biggest fanbase in Asia is easily worth that for Chevy. What is Barcelona on? 30m? Jesus, what a deal.... And Syed, the reuters article was pretty clear in that the marketing chief wasn't fired for this, but rather they had wanted him out for a time. Thanks for the correction by the way, Pgr.
Never thought I would comment on this forum, but I'm 100% positive that there's going to be an uproar over this in the United States. Why? Well we (as in the American Tax Payers) bailed out GM with a couple billion dollars. So when this becomes big news, I'm guessing there will be some boycotts and protests. But you're lucky. This happened during the Olympics. It probably won't make the news.
