Steve just read the anti-racism/violence speech on the field before the game and ended it with "Thank You," which I thought was a nice touch. The future mayor of Hannover has style.
Jones playing right mid today, which I think is called the Danny Williams position. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...fstellung_hannover-96-58_fc-schalke-04-2.html
This is a really defensive lineup from Schalke. I'm not so sure about it (especially Jones at "right mid")
This game is live on GOL TV. Since the Bundesliga is the only European league that GOL TV still has the TV rights too they are going to increase their coverage of it this year (they had 4 live games this week). The flip side of that is that they are no longer sub-licensing games to espn3.com and ESPN Deportes.
That last part isn't true. ESPN still has Bundesliga games listed on their schedule. They didn't have any this week, but it looks like they have one for spieltag 2
Schalke is doing almost exactly what Klinsmann does with Williams. Jones, at "right mid," is really just hanging back and providing additional defensive support next to Neustadter. The left midfielder is pushing further up the pitch, creating a shape that looks like this ------------Huntelaar-----Marica ----Draxler---------Holtby ----------Neudstader-------Jones -----------------back four------------- This is the first time I've seen anyone other than Klinsmann do something like this.
Halftime: Hannover 1-0 It's probably worth noting that Dolo's Hannover was the only team in the Bundesliga last year that went undefeated at home.
Mourinho used to do the same at Chelsea with the skinny diamond midfield they played. Essien was the DM and Ballack at RM would hang back more with the LM more attacking. With Williams at Azteca, he was playing more defensive - maybe not to the extent that you would call it more 4-3-2-1 than 4-2-3-1, but almost. If you look at the distribution of Jones and Beckerman in that match, the majority of their passes were towards the left.
Jones with his first yellow of the season. He has a bet with his GM, Heldt, that the he want go over a certain number this season. I forget what the number is, must be 5 because the commentator just said he can only get 4 more this season .
2-2 Hannover's home undefeated streak continues. They haven't lost a league match at home since April 30, 2011.
IIRC, the bet was actually that he can only be suspended once over the course of the season for yellow card accumulation. If it is 5 until he is suspended, then he can actually get 9 yellow cards this year.
