I'd tend to agree, but not if the alternative is Newcastle. That place is a shit show, with a thoroughgoing shit of an owner, an unbalanced squad and a Championship promotion specialist - at best - as a coach. If Rafa was going back there, I'd say he should take it but he isn't. Try Celtic. If it works, you'll be joining Southampton or Everton. If it doesn't, you may be back in the Championship, but at least you won't be playing for Newcastle
The diehard Celtic supporters know exactly where they fall on the landscape of “big” clubs. They are no illusions. They understand they are a big fish in a little pond in terms of the SPL. They understand their standing is firmly centered around how well they do in Europe. It’s been a big pill to swallow for many Celtic supporters but everyone seems to know their current status. That still doesn’t alleviate the massive pressures. In fact, it only intensifies them. Celtic are undergoing a massive rebuild and a massive shift in philosophy. It’s going to take time but there are still expected to compete for titles. With that said, “big” club, to me anyway, doesn’t always equate to trophies but is often linked to trophies - if that make sense. And by that I mean.... clubs like Celtic has huge local & global followings and long traditions are still the fabric of their existences. They aren’t “new” money clubs. That, to me, is a “big” club. Most often that tradition is steeped in winning but if winning dried up those clubs would still have the diehards that drive the club. There aren’t many around anymore. Even a “big” club like Leeds has “new” money via an Italian owner and the SF ‘49ers group.
May I ask what happened to Celtic this past season? Rangers just absolutely blew the doors off the league without even a sniff of a challenge from Celtic. What gives?
In the simplest answer.... club management was so obsessed with winning 10 in a row (both Celtic & Rangers have 9 consecutive titles in their trophy cases) that they sacrificed Europe for that title record, brought back Neil Lennon (supporters didn’t want), didn’t improve the squad after some sales, and it blew up in their face. Big time. It was the first time since 2010 that the club failed to earn a trophy. It was just a colossal mess from top-to-bottom. Everything was botched. Heads rolled and some old cronies in charge were dismissed and/one resigned under pressure. On top of all that.... when Lennon was fired they let Eddie Howe string them along for almost 4 months. The constant will he or won’t he manage Celtic was a ridiculous saga from Celtic and Howe. Celtic should have creased talks when there was an ounce of doubt. It took way too long to finally land on Ange Postecoglou. Time was wasted. However, everything that I’ve read, he might just turn out to be a good hire. There’s zero connections to Celtic. There are no biases. He’s a total outsider. Postecoglou is well regarded with former players and clubs and he’s had success with young players which is the direction Celtic is shifting to.
Celtic is a massive club that has been sent packing from the Champions in qualifying rounds by the likes of Ferencváros, CFR Cluj, and AEK Athens in the last three seasons.
Shhhh. The Celtic fan club itt won’t like these facts. As I said, CCV going to Celtic would be a mistake. But lads, grab a pint and watch the old firm!
Despite what you think, Celtic supporters know that fact and aren’t happy about it. Despite what you may also think, Celtic supporters are well aware of their current standing in world football. The Celtic connections I have on many social media platforms, blogs, podcasts, etc pull no punches and know they aren’t the Celtic of old or even the Celtic of 5 years ago. They are actually pretty damn realistic. That’s not going to stop them from holding their high standards and demanding the best and putting ungodly pressure on the management, staff, and players. That’s not arrogance. They have that right with the historical and recent success of the club. So I don’t quite understand the need to bag on them. I think at this point the only mistake on CCV’s part is staying at Spurs. He needs out. He needs out now. So if Celtic is that lifeline so be it. If not, as I have said, I hope he lands at a promotion chasing Championship side or a mid-to-lower table EPL side.
Good one! Let's all come back after a) the CL/EL qualifiers and b) the CL/EL group stages before shitting on Celtic from a height. Edit: And I am giving hostages to fortune with this one. Postecoglou is a very interesting personality as well as a coach, but he doesn't have a history of coming flying out of the starting blocks. He seems to have very clear ideas about what he wants and how to go about it, and that kind of change takes time to bed in
Newcastle appears to have the lead: https://www.footballinsider247.com/...n-race-to-sign-carter-vickers-from-tottenham/
i dont exactly have a google alert set for newcastle transfer rumors, but theyve got like 5 roughly comparable level cbs already. unless two of those (at a minimum) im sure i like the fit. dont get me wrong- i think the level, the team, all that is a pretty spot on fit...im just concerned about joining an already overcrowded and not especially defined platoon.
Agreed. Unless some are moved on I see: Fredrico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark, Fabian Liguene (returning from loan in La Liga with Alaves) and Fabian Schar as competition. Could CCV beat any of them out? I confess I don’t pay much attention to Newcastle unless Mike Ashley opens his pie hole.
CCV did report for first team training with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. You can see a picture in him the slide show in this article on the Spurs website. Spurs are now managed by Nuno Espírito Santo. @bungadiri @TheFalseNine Cameron Carter-Vickers at Tottenham Hotspur
I think I'd wait until later as there's no need to change if it's gonna be changed again soon. It's not like it's *easy* to get @bungadiri to do any real work around here.
Celtic & Newcastle in the home stretch: Newcastle United and Celtic are both neck-and-neck in the race for #USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a source close to the player confirmed today. They are the frontrunners for a permanent transfer, neither is ahead of the other.— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) July 12, 2021
From what I’m reading / hearing on Celtic blogs podcasts, etc is that Kristoffer Ajer could determine whether CCV goes to Celtic or Newcastle. Ajer is wanted by Newcastle but they haven’t met Celtic’s valuation. So if Newcastle can’t get Ajer, CCV is their man. If Newcastle can get Ajer, CCV is Celtic’s man.
As always, you're our man! Since it's neck and neck (between Newcastle and Celtic), would hourly updates be too much to ask? Thanks in advance!
if I’m properly compensated for my time. My services are affordable…. Good beer or bourbon will do for payment
If it's true Prince Bonesaw and his Public Investment Fund (Saudi Arabia) are taking over Newcastle in the coming weeks, they'll have money to burn and could buy 10 CBs if they wanted, with no need to sell any. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/oth...verdict-on-pif-and-the-saudi-state/ar-AAM1adX
