Chelsea v. Liverpool, 11.05.03 [R]

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by RedKnight, May 9, 2003.

  1. Thread for Sunday's match starts here.

Smicer unavailable; Didi is very questionable (shin).

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N140175030509-0840.htm

Gerrard is fit, and has this to say:

"My personal opinion is if we don't win on Sunday this season has been a failure.

"Others might look at it and say we've won a trophy and got into Europe, but as far as I'm concerned we set higher targets for ourselves than that at the start of the season.

"This game is much bigger than the Worthington Cup final. It's the biggest game of the season so far."

I'm glad to see Stevie step up to leadership. If didi doesn't play, what will the midfield look like? There seems to be two choices --- a straight substitution of Diao for Didi or move Stevie into Didi's role and put Cheyrou into midfield. What say you all?

One of the articles I read today suggested that Diao is ready to step into Didi's role.

  5. If Hamann is not fit, I say go with Diao.

Moving Gerrard back, and bringing in Cheyrou, would rob us of Gerrard's playmaking ability. And I'm not high on Cheyrou at all right now.

The more interesting issue for me is the strike pairing; I'd think and hope it will be Baros and Owen again--but I suspect that GH might go with Heskey.

    .................Dudek

    Carragher--Hyypia--Traore--Riise

    ...Murphy--Diao--Gerrard--Diouf

    ...........Baros--Owen

    Subs:

    Arpexhad
    Cheyrou
    Biscan
    Berger
    Heskey

On a side note, it'd be nice to see Berger get subbed in towards the end of the game (if it's appropriate, of course). This will cleary be his last match for us, and he's been a wonderful player to have. Even though it's an away game, I'm sure he'd like to say goodbye to at least a few thousand supporters.

I'm glad all of you made the choice I would make --- Diao. Now let's see how GH goes. I'd keep Baros up front to put some pressure on Chelsea.

So here I am all alone at match time.
(I feel like they've just shut the Kop gate in my face)
PPV have this rule that if your phone cord is not plugged in 24 hours before you want to order something, you can't get in. Mine has to stretch across the room to get to the TV and I forgot.
My wife is sure to get her feet tangled in it on the way to the bathroom anyway.

    Anyone got a score....Huh huh!?

How dumb are we? Match is tomorrow. Oh lord.

  12. I stumbled to the computer, read these posts, panicked briefly, and almost bought "Spy Kids 2." :)

BTW, my Digital Cable "provider" lists tomorrow's PPV match as beginning at 11ET/8PT--where everywhere I look, the fixture list indicates a 10ET/7PT start. . .

They wouldn't screw it up, would they? Bear in mind I'm dealing with Comcast here.

Call them up and let them know that it's at 10:00, otherwise you could face a situation similar to the one I had for the Worthington Cup.

  14. Thanks very much for the tip, Lanky. Will do.

Of course, the last time I called Comcast Customer "Service" the high-point of the conversation was hearing the representative shout out to his supervisor: "We have any MSL Shutoff Packets?"

Why is it that it's NEVER those calls that are "monitored for quality assurance . . .?"

    How did that turn out?

Since it's listed at 11 for everyone, it sounds to me like a national problem. Either they have to reprogram their computers, or shuffle around the PPV lineup for that morning, or SOMETHING that Comcast will likely find too taxing to attempt.

If they dick this one up, they can take my digital service and cram it up their ass. I've been THIS close to getting a dish for ages now.

  16. I'll let you know. Haven't called Comcast yet. I checked inDemand's Web site first, just in case my local-digital-cable worthies tried to shift the blame for the screw-up.

Turns out inDemand's got it wrong as well.

I'll get back to you as soon as I find out . . .

Got to work and opened this thread up and
    BOY DO I FEEL DUMBER...!!!
    I will get it tomorrow.
At least they said 10am EST. That's 7am for those on the left coast. Repeat at 1pm. 10am for us.

    DUMB!

  18. UPDATE:

Darlene and the gang at Comcast were, of course, worthless. "It starts at 8am, sir . . . " and "No, iNDEMAND didn't leave us their number" were the highlights of that conversation . . .

Of course, the corporate offices for In Demand LLC in NYC are closed.

    I sent an Email to:

    http://www.indemand.com/about/contactUs.jsp

and if you were planning on watching the match on PPV tomorrow, I'd strongly suggest you Email them as well. In fact, those of you who were headed to a pub might want to do the same . . . I assume that they'll be relying on iNDEMAND as well.

If/when I hear back, I'll post it here.

I also called, and was informed the match started at 11. Perhaps they are just going to show it on one hour tape delay? That won't be too horrible.

Emailed too. No reply yet. Go Comcast.

This is what happened with me and the WC Final. I was told one thing and the cable company did another, and I wound up missing the first half.

Don't let them tell you what time the game starts.

  21. FWIW, I posted info on this potential disaster on the Chelsea Board, as well as on the general EPL Board. . .

Low on LFC content, but good for the kids. Stig, once a cable subscriber, ordered a match on PPV right around the clocks change in the 1999-2000 season, and wound up with some real "Spice". Something to do with Latex, really bad background music, etc. It was also low on LFC content, but Stig saw no need to complain. The cable folks actually credited the PPV on the next bill.

    Chelsea 2-3 Liverpool

Oft times in the past, matches on PPV were shown delayed by a couple hours. Not sure if that is the case this time, but it galls me to pay $15-20 for something that isn't even live. Having said that, I will be getting up at 5:30 tomorrow to watch it despite the cost and the hour. :)

The match is live, on the east coast of the US, at 10am. Shouldn't you rise a bit sooner?
