Tuchel might be on to something with CHO as a wing back. Looking really good. Granted not a lot of defensive work to do today
A couple of observations about the approach in the first game and a half. We look more intentional moving the ball up the pitch. It's getting to the danger area quicker and we sit on it less in our own half (less dilly dallying). The wong back gives us a better channel for this movement than the prior formation. We seem to be growing into games rather than having a huge spurt in the first 10 minutes and then dropping off. As a result we are getting caught out less, either in posession or on the counter. I know the quality of opponent will improve but we were giving up more (quantity and quality) chances against teams every bit at the level of wolves and burnley. Way too early to draw solid conclusions of course but you can see what tuchel is trying to do, even as he experiments with players.
I doubt Tuchel will always be deploying the Wong backs, but it does seem to be working against these defensive sides.
Trying things out i think. Feels a lot like a preseason sort of a change. 45 mins for timo to lead the line now and show what he can do.
CHO, again, our best player. Mount very good too and Pulisic has looked the best he has since last season. Timo looks a little better playing centrally. Silva is my MotM right now though.
Kovacic looks an entirely different player when allowed to run the ball up the pitch rather than trying to move it in increments. CHO again looking dangerous from out wide. Will he be able to get forward from the wb position as much against teams who pose a bigger threat I wonder?
Rees on for CHO, he is definitely looking at the options. No other reason for that. But it's still only 1-0
Outside of Silva and Mount (Kova has been good too) our best players are on this right side. James has been great in the short cameo. Wow.
