Charlotte sports exec kicking around Major League Soccer bid http://www.bizjournals.com/charlott...-sports-exec-kicking-around-major-league.html
The MLS. The MLS. I guess the author didn't do much research on the CBA. Does anyone really believe the league still loses up to $100m? As for Charlotte, go for it.
Has anyone approached Ollen Smith about becoming an investor in NC sports team? I was just thinking that what the Carolinas lack is some serious capital. Who would have the deep pockets in NC?
I'm not sure I would entrust an MLS team to MJ at the moment. I'll wait till Buzz City actually generates revenue and success (on the courts, rather than just on the shelves) and then consider His Airness.
What's the news on Queen City SC? Anyone heard any rumors lately? http://queencitysc.com/ Very cryptic site.
Here's more information regarding Legion Stadium, where a team will potentially play in 2015: http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/cou...s/EventFacilities/Pages/Memorial Stadium.aspx
Nothing cryptic at all it says USLPro 2015. Which given the existence of the Eagles seems strange. Unless the Eagles have plans on moving to NASL or moving down to PDL.
MLS To Charlotte @MLS2CLT 1h1 hour ago It's funny what happens with these 28 teams: 4 awesome geographic divisions, 7 teams each. Let's do it
there is no way in hell if a team comes to NC that it should go to Charlotte ... it is a pit, i lived there for years. The Triangle is the only conceivable place in NC that makes sense ... it is the only place that has the perfect demographics that best suit MLS .... there are numbers of young, educated, well off, and moderately liberal types in the Triangle and i think an MLS team could succeed there (with only 1 pro rival), much like an Orlando or Portland .... Charlotte not so much.
here is some talk of a Railhawks transition to MLS: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article51945445.html
Charlotte is easily a better choice for an MLS team than Raleigh. Location alone makes Charlotte THAT much better a candidate for MLS expansion, being directly in the middle of both states and no more than a 3 hour drive from almost every other major metro area in the Carolinas. Charlotte has the same young, well educated and wealthy "liberals" that you mentioned and additionally has more potential financial investors than Raleigh-Durham can offer. Not to mention that the Triangle knows it's fair share of trouble (crime) too, as I'm sure that is what you must have meant by calling the Queen City a pit. Most Importantly you hear a lot more rumors of the Canes relocating due to attendance than you do about either pro team in Charlotte (although the Canes are the only team in the region with a pro title). Our new club, with stadium issues and in a lower division, was able to remain within 2k fans for last season's average per game. Just imagine if they had a nice set up like what the Railhawks had in Cary from the jump. Charlotte is just better than Charlotte in everything and being an MLS candidate is one of them.
Dandy Don does not have Charlotte on his radar screen: http://www.crowntownsoccer.com/mls-commish-throws-cold-water-mls2clt-dreams/
Charlotte will get a team once the league expands to 32. They are a large sports city that fills a hole on the map and serves in underserved population.
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article93330232.html http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article121184193.html Charlotte has a billionaire owner, now we just have to get a stadium plan together and boom.
City officials are discussing a proposal to bulldoze Memorial Stadium and Grady Cole to build a 19,000 seat MLS stadium. Seems relevant. Fingers crossed
