Classic MLS midweek trap game tonight. On the bright side, we slept walked through the entire game and still got a draw. And FCC lost. Time to bring the heat on Saturday and get back on track.
A disappointing result that you could see coming for over 30 minutes after failing to convert all those chances in the final third. It's bizarre this year how much better the Crew play away from home. As I've said already, the only opponent I don't want to see in the first round is Charlotte. They ugly it up and have a goalkeeper that can singlehandedly win games for them, and I don't want any of our players going out again on that awful turf.
Well we didn't have the xG I expected us to have. Not sure Nancy pulled the right lineup. I might have gone with Matan in midfield to help generate play, but there are tradeoffs against Charlotte's double pivot. Rudy and Hagen were lucky not to have been beaten earlier on that same play. Well rehearsed.
Yeah it wasn't terrible, but his form on the shot for the goal was lacking. He bent his leg in and got megged. Like that England goal. All we need him to be is replacement level. I've recently been keeping an eye on the FBref MLS GK charts, and it hasn't been a good year for MLS. Schulte has rocketed up the charts, with Brady and Cellantano cratering.
Fair result Tired of storms screwing up the flow of game day Good showing from CLT fans tonight Great keeper for them
Well anytime you can get your young athletic striker 1v1 with a older slower CB your at a disadvantage and nobody except the GK could help him. Camacho sured up our back line last year by knowing the system and playing good. It’s a tough position to play ang your going to get beat sometimes. But teams should do this more and more because Camacho ain’t winning many foot races in that type of scenario. I’m not making a knee jerking reaction, I want the future at CB to be young and athletic ,get him here asap ! Learn from Camacho , be a rotational starter and eventually replace him. Next year is the last year on Camachos contract. I’d rather not wait till next summer to start grooming his replacement. Ik ppl will say salary cap yada yada but we can find a good young u22 CB out here somewhere. We play a attractive brand of football. Let’s not sit on our hands, be proactive. Christian Ramírez Got behind the defense and just doesn’t have the speed. Another position we could use a younger quality upgrade at. I like these kinda veteran players but as rotational starters. The only older guy who isn’t going to be in this category is Nagbe but even he needs a lil more rest. Nagbe however still has the speed to play his position at a high level. He does have his times where he seems to conserve energy but I feel it’s because we need him out there and we need to lighten his minutes. im a older guy I can still get up and down with the younger kids(guys in their 20s) for a lil bit but Im unable to do that for a large amount of minutes. Smart teams with speed are going to try and exploit Camacho and they can cheat off Christian Ramírez knowing they can close him down. Don’t be like the Crew of past hanging on to players like Pipa who are way past their prime. If you keep a older guy get one who is super fit like Nagbe or Kei Kamara.
Just couldn't put the ball in the net tonight. We needed to use all 5 subs and a lot sooner. It felt like Charlotte was up a man or two for much of the second half.
What a dogshit performance. We looked tired, and a beat off in our offensive execution the entire game. What an absurd number of scoring chances wasted. While we have, statistically, the best defense in the league, we don’t have the greatest number of clean sheets (Charlotte does). So it wasn’t any shock at all that we coughed up that late goal. If Charlotte had much attacking talent, they’d have scored on one of their earlier chances. Two frustrating points dropped at home.
I'd like to know who did the calculations on that, especially with almost 70% possession on our side. I also thought Nagbe completely disappeared in the second half. Not sure why.
Fotmob gave us 1.5. MLS website gave us 2. But both have Charlotte with more, 1.8 and 2.7. Fotmob has a different calculus than other sites, and I knew what that difference is but now forget. Some of our shots on goal weren't great but then again, there's a different stat, xGoT to measure how good the shot was. I agree on Nagbe. He didn't want the ball at times toward the end.
Barely. According to league stats, he's taken 3, with one on target. No goals (obviously) with 2 assists. His numbers are never high; last year he had 18 shots, 7 on target, 3 goals and 1 assist.
Yeah, I have a feeling that those missed Grouchy points are going to come back and bite me in a couple months.
Don't have time to read up yet. My few thoughts watching the game from the stands last night. Arfston was done well before he was subbed out. He was not able to get back and support on defense, he needed to come out. So I understand the sub. However, Yaw... I came around on him in the playoffs last year and thought he was doing well to start the year. But it was clear that Charlotte had no interest in even pretending to respect him and the Crew barely looked his way either when he came on the field. Seems like if he's (Yeboah) not a threat to get in behind from Amundson over the top, then he's just not much of a threat Didn't occur to me at the time, but in hindsight, Kgilbert is right that Nagbe was pretty invisable second half. Lastly... I know we're all aglow over Nancy and his system. But I feel like Cucho (and at times Matan) play just enough outside the system and that that creativity is what really makes this team dangerous. It's not just the goals Cucho bags that make him so instrumental.
I thought this as well. The first half wasn't that bad, and if we had scored another goal or two, no problem. But as the second half went on, the passing and decision making wasn't there. Maybe the short break plus cross-country trip finally caught up to us.
