"Carlos Bocanegra looks to have played his last game for Rangers after travelling to the USA earlier today to seal a return to Chicago Fire"

My posting this rumor should not be construed as lending any credence to or making any statement of its trustworthiness.

    Further, let me add...why?

The only reason this would make any sense is if FK were switching to a 3-5-2...Gibbs, Berry, Arne, and Carlos would be entirely too many top quality CBs.

Or...to make a seriously unsubstantiated rumor. New England fans are all clamoring that they should trade Toja for a CB....

Anibaba needs to ride pine. Nyarko too.

Nyarko is already a backup to Flaco, or at least that appears to be the case after two games.

Agree on Anibaba, but FK considers him to be a fullback, so Boca doesn't do anything to remedy that. And to be honest, is Gargan any better? my 3-5-2 would get rid of him, but that creates a million headaches in midfield.

Yes, very interested to see if this [rumor] has any credibility to it.

Btw, guess who currently holds the top allocation spot? Yup, you guessed it, Toronto FC.

I actually like Gargan's game. Yeah, he misses an assignment sometimes but he makes up for it by creating offensive chances. That, and mofos are scared shitless of him.

Interesting dilemma to have too many quality CB's.

Fire have apparently sold Orr Barouch to Israeli side Bnei Yehuda, as twitter rumors of Bocanegra returning continue to grow.

Odd player Barouch. Brought in by Klopas, hardly ever used by Klopas, sold by Klopas. I continue to maintain that his biggest problem was he was a hold up target striker in a team that was built around the counter attack. He was never going to work in that system.

Fire supposedly got $400k, which doesn't seem terrible business, considering his position on the team

400K that is very good if real.

    Best for all.

I hope it's true, $400,000 would be nice. Maybe Andy can spring for a full time beer vendor in our section with the extra $$$$

I would tend to agree, given not only out current center back depth, but also the fact that I'm fairly certain he would go through allocation, right? Or do we hold rights.

And when will MLS make it easy to figure that crap out? Just publish a master list of players that teams hold rights to or something.

That said, the rumor is out there....

I can't imagine we still have his rights, so I'd imagine a certain amount of rigging of the allocation system would be in order. That's assuming that the origin of the rumor didn't confuse "signing with MLS" with "signing with Chicago".

I'd like this deal, partly because he was a big part of some of our best seasons, and partly because of our fragile older CBs. Not to mention the uncertainty of Friedrich's situation after this season and the fact that Bocanegra is a pretty versatile defender. Someone probably ends up getting traded, though . . . Gibbs maybe?

We could give them Pause...and we could put Carlos B in the CDM spot.

Does Gibbs have any trade value though? He has been out injured all season.

As much as Boca might help the team, I don't think he is needed. And I'm a bit worried of what we might give Toronto to get him.

Though on a Toronto Blog, I was reminded that we gave them Chad Barrett and a draft pick for Brian McBride. So maybe we can shift some more deadwood. Paladini, Bone, Gulley. I don't think Oduro or Nyarko are starters here any more, but I would like to see both stick around, so I hope it isn't one of those, though it easily could be.

I imagine Toronto would want Berry or Freidrich (sp).

Yeah, Boca is maybe an upgrade agewise over Friedrich, but I have seen Arne all year, and he is giving it all and fast becoming a leader on the team. Until I knew Boca would play that same way, I'm not getting rid of Arne. And maybe not even then.

I would take Berry over either of them. Not as good, but he is 23 years old. He has 10+ years of playing time left. Boca has like 3-4 tops.

Why are ya'll typing CB when he is regularly played at LB also? Hows about putting him in at RB?

    Sega, Berry, Arne, Boca, Johnson

A big middle finger to the rest of the leagues offense

I'll preface this by saying that the only times I have seen Boca play lately have been against National teams, who are obviously better than the average MLS team, but it seems like when I have seen him play out there, he has looked too slow to be used there regularly. Also, he plays like every other centerback who "also plays" fullback. He stays back too often, and doesn't get into attack enough.

I'm open to be corrected, though.

Boca left Pre-Andy. He seems to be allergic to any links to our past, Frank being the one exception to date. I don't see it happening.

If Boca doesn't wind up on the Fire, it won't be due to that conspiracy theory.

Not really a conspiracy theory. Just a fact. I'm not saying that Andy would bar him from the Fire. I just have not seen him go out of his way to bring anyone back into the club or keep anyone at the club who was here before him. I realize Rolfe started here before Andy, but he was a key part of the only successful teams we have had under Andy.

Most players from the pre-Andy days are about 40 now, so I'm not going to blame him for not bringing them back to play
