The Battery strengthen their number one defense with former Colorado Rapid defender Rick Titus and added to their midfield with Jamar Beasley formerly Italian Serie C football. www.charlestonbattery.com/news.asp?y=2003&page=1&id=70 Look out for the Battery this year. mikey
I am afraid we might be beyond help this year. The best we can hope for is for everyone else to stink in the West too.
Well Calgary is signing Jamaicans and Vancouver is having some youth players from England trying out (trying out my butt-If they are flying these guys in from England they are guaranteed to make the squad). Looks like the Canadian teams in the Pacific division are trying out some foreign talent this year, so it should be interesting.
More on Beasley, Titus Got a little more insight into Battery signings in this writeup: http://www.charleston.net/stories/031303/spo_13battery.shtml
The Beasley signing is very intriguing. I thought he played well in Chicago but with Wolff, Razov, and Stoitchkov he was odd man out. Does this mean Raul Diaz Arce won't be back in Charleston? The Battery's backline is looking pretty darned good. I wish more of their games would be on the Fox Sports World TV package.
The posters on the Charleston board on USLDiscussions said Diaz Arce was not returning. And Eric Wynalda is not returning either.
Hax All the battery games are available on webcast via the Battery website. www.charlestonbattery.com and look for the webcast link. Last year a day or two after each match, there was a link to the goals from the latest match and imagine they will continue that again this year. RDA wasn't really part of the starting squad last year but came in a sub throughout the year. He's a good guy and always had time for a chat or to kick the ball around with the kids. Wynalda will be doing sideline reports for ESPN this year. I wish them both well and lots of luck. Mikey
Mikey and GMan- Thanks for the info. I caught a few Battery games on TV last year and really enjoyed watching them play. Ryan Trout has come a long way from his Virginia days, where I thought he was overrated, but he certainly played well for the Battery. I will certainly look for the goals highlights once the season starts.
Trout was very good last year. He is very good at taking on defenders but I think he needs to look up a bit more when he plays. The best thing is I think he can get even better. Here is the link to the video of Trout's hat-trick last season. Choose the player you want to use on the right side to view. http://www.charlestonbattery.com/matches_report.asp?mid=40 enjoy Mikey
Beasley was born 10-11-79 so he only 23 right now. I think the A-league move is good for him. Hopefully coach Ramsey can bring out his potential. Mikey
