Charleston training I thought it was curious that Tiffeny Milbrett was given a break. She just took one - wasn't it in December? I read an interview where she seemed to be raring to go. Also, the defense seems a little thin - especially with Joy out. Should be interesting! Geneva - my first BS post!
I wonder if Iceland will come out in its 'traditional' bunker defense? And I'm glad to see that Abby is on the roster, maybe she'll get to start with Mia (or come on in the second half with Mia...)
That is correct. I was at the practice when she got injured. Unfortunately for Catherine she was injured towards the very end of the final practice before the USWNT left for China.
Charleston, SC training camp squad named Why is Nikki Serlenga not in the national team picture. Name me another defensive midfielder playing at the top level who can score from 35 yds., pass with her vision, and tackle like truck. She also has that little bit of "nasty" that is missing from this current national team side. She would be a great complement to Wagner in the midfield, and do all of the "dirty work" that every team needs done in the middle of the park.
Re: Charleston, SC training camp squad named I think Devvyn Hawkins can do all of that quite well, and she has been a great compliment to Aly Wagner. They train them well at Santa Clara. As far as Nikki, was it her or April or a combination of both that had her take a break from the national team? I thought I read an article where she said she was taking a break, but, that doesn't mean Ape didn't have something to do with that. I like this roster. I like April mixing the vets with the newbies, especially if they are going to be given PT in big time comps like the Algarve. It helps the development and will help in the long run. Jay
Re: Re: Charleston, SC training camp squad named yeah, she said she wanted to concentrate on the Beat. Lil, Jules and the REAL #9 are back....woohoo! that sucks about no Millie though, maybe she's hurt?
Re: Re: Re: Charleston, SC training camp squad named Pretty much. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there have been articles out there mentioning how Nikki wouldn't mind going back. She really took off as a player this past season and I wouldn't mind seeing her back on the nats (would give me an excuse to watch their games now) but I think she'll have a hard time of going back. Mainly because of all the new players April's calling up, but also because she was the one that stepped away in the first place. One one hand, i'd like to see her in the line up again. But on the other hand, she had a great season with the Beat and I'd hate to see her game go down because of the nats.
NC.. I'm not 100% sure yet but I'm probably gonna be driving down from NY and staying for a few days after that because I have a friend that lives close to there....winter recess helps too. Anyone else driving down? Cindy
Re: Re: Re: Re: Charleston, SC training camp squad named You're right, B. I haven't been able to find any of the links but I do remember reading an interview with her where she said she was working hard and that she would really like to play for the WNT again. ---------------------- I'm making the trip to Charleston, along with my daughter and probably AB1. Hope we don't get a monsoon this time around.
U.S. Women Arrive in Charleston for Second Domestic Match of 2003 -------------- Don't suppose one of the mods would be able to change the title of this thread to include "articles and stuff"?
I had the opportunity to interview Coach Heinrichs on Wednesday. Here's the transcript of our talk, posted on the The Regiment's website (The Regiment is the Charleston Battery's Supporters Club): Coach April Heinrichs Interview
Icelandic team I heard that the Icelandic team is missing 7 from the starting team that was playing in the world cup qualification. Their team is young and inexperienced so it should be easy for the USA.
Well here's the damn roster: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=28004&itype= GOALKEEPERS: LaKeysia Beene (San Jose CyberRays), Siri Mullinix (Washington Freedom). DEFENDERS: Jenny Benson (Philadelphia Charge), Thori Bryan (San Jose CyberRays), Brandi Chastain (San Jose CyberRays), Christie Pearce (New York Power), Kate Sobrero (Boston Breakers). MIDFIELDERS: Julie Foudy (San Diego Spirit), Devvyn Hawkins (Boston Breakers), Angela Hucles (Boston Breakers), Jena Kluegel (Boston Breakers), Kristine Lilly (Boston Breakers), Tiffany Roberts (Carolina Courage), Lindsay Tarpley (UNC), Aly Wagner (San Diego Spirit). FORWARDS: Mia Hamm (Washington Freedom), Heather O'Reilly (PDA Torpedoes), Cindy Parlow (Atlanta Beat). I think it's safe to say that Abigail Wambach is now on the outside looking in from here on out.
8 mids seems like a lot. 3 forwards seems like too little. But, I'm not the coach. While I'm not one that hates April, sometimes I wonder what the heck she is doing. It seems that sometmes she just draws names from a hat. Jay
Anyone wanna venture a guess at the lineup, I'll say: Mullinix (Beene in at the half) Chastain, Bryan(Benson in for her), Pearce, Sobrero Foudy (Hawkins),Roberts(Kluegel), Lilly, Wagner(Tarpley) Hamm, Parlow(O'Reilly at the half) Only 3 forwards?! Eeesh. Thanks Melby and Fear, I meant Kluegel. Fair is just habit I guess. And she didn't keep Solo.
