Apparently in anticipation of the moved All-Star game possibly involving Real, teams are quietly moving games originally scheduled on 7/31 to different dates. The Fire website has nothing yet, but the Metroscum does have the game moved to 7/24 (http://www.metrostars.com/schedule/2004.shtml), the date of the original game.
Re: July Fire-Scum Match There's going to be a few schedule changes announced in the near future, so I'm going to generalise this thread a bit.
I don't see why that would be a big deal. The practice that afternoon is a ticketed event but there's no reason why you can't clear that out and have a league game that night. It's not an NFL game or concert we're talking about.
Re: July Fire-Scum Match You may want to update the sticky. I know the Fire hasn't announced it officially, but if the Metros have and the ASG is fairly obviously going to be moved...in fact, four of the five games have already been moved according to team websites, with only DC-DAL left to figure out.
Re: July Fire-Scum Match I will, but I've traditionally updated it only when announcements are official or as near to being so as possible. Plus, seriously like 5 or six games are changing so better to do it all at once.
http://www.metrostars.com/schedule/2004.shtml You people have failed to notice the new metros schedule have the Fire now playing the Metros at Soldier Field on 7/17 and in Nj on 7/24. All this hinges on whether Real Madrid can stay in second place if they slip to third the all star game with them on 7/31 is off. They also have to change the 9/12 game.
Are you speculating on that or is it part of the agreement with MLS? Personally, I think it would be hilarious if they lost to the MLS All Stars. Talk about heaping on the ignominy. Many Real fans would brush it off as meaninless but it would still be sweet.
Again, even if they slip to third the game is not necessarily off. CL Qualifying begins in early to mid August. Both Liverpool and Manchester United, both involved in games in the US, as late as 3 August, will be involved in European qualifying, and you may include AS Roma in that as well. But you don't see those clubs scrambling to terminate their contract with ChampionsWorld and forego their tour. Truly, the only way I can see Madrid cancelling the tour outright is if by some stroke of divine countenance Enrique Sobrino becomes president this summer, and even then in that unlikely circumstance if Perez has already signed the contract there will be a rather expensive out clause for Sobrino to exercise. My wager that the holdup in announcing the tour is partially the uncertainty of the summer schedule, but the fact Madrid plans two or three matches in Asia after the US tour. The Asian matches and the Galaxy friendly are one heck of a lot more likely to be scrapped in descending order than the All-Star game, especially since they visited Asia last year and have been looking for a reason to come back to play in the American market after last years' sucesses in the US by foriegn clubs and thier own match with Roma in NYC back in 2002.
http://www.euro2004.com/ Final: 4 July 2004. I'd like to think RMCF are at least concerned enough to find 4 complete weeks for their players to rest in the summer.
The fire 2004 Magnet Schedules have already made the changes: 7/7 at home vs. Columbus 7/17 at home vs. Metrostars 7/24 at Metrostars 7/31 all star game
http://www.coloradorapids.com/TheMatch/ScheduleResults.asp Colorado's schedule now has us playing in Colorado Wednesday 7/28 and playing the Rapids at Soldier Field Saturday 8/14. How accurate this is, is anybodys guess.
That is 4 changes and the magnet also says the KC game was switched to 9-1-4. Moving Freddy to Sat Sep 4th. Amazing what you can find out when you read. So we are up to 6 changes like Hala said.
They make so many changes every year MLS should first just release an april-june schedule and say rest will be released when we know what we're doing. We are lucky we only have to make one change this year because of the Bears. Of course there still could be changes if a big rock group decides to tour in the fall.
Why not 1 more change! Take the Sat Oct 9th game against Colorado and move it to the night before. Have the game on October 8th and have it kick off shortly after 9p.m. It could be billed as the 133rd Anniversary Game.
http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/schedule/index.jsp#current Without making an announcement MLS has changed schedule. From what I can see they now show All-star game 7/31. Fire changes are 7/17 game now at ny 7/24 ny at soldier field 7/28 at colorado 8/11 san jose at soldier field 8/14 colorado at soldier field 9/1 opponent is now kc at soldier field 9/4 dc at soldier field 10/6 columbus at soldier field Games originally supposed to be played 7/31,8/18,9/12 and 10/9 at sf will be played on other dates.
Actually they did announce it to the press it just wast on the league site...until now: http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20040513&content_id=2728&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Changes in or coming to the sticky info thread.
That would be (would have been) the 12 September match, which the mls site now shows as being on 6 October.
