I wonder what the relationship between DCU and the new club would be. It would be interesting to see if the two clubs strike any transfer deals with one another or not. The thing i found interesting was the 'on behalf of D.C. United'.
This article and the conitnued presence at matches of both Mr. Chang and Mr. MacFarlane should give us all comfort that it was not merely about the development - it just sweetened the pot for these men. The only people who have not been anywhere near the club since the takeover (to my knowledge at least) are Brian Davis and Christian Laettner.
its for sale too maybe. certainly its got to be a tempting target for a take over, a true "sleeping giant"
I think that is great news for Soccer in the U.S. I hope it is on behalf of DC United, would be nice to have an EP affiliation.
That's what I'm talking about! Now would definitely be the time to buy. If they can manage their way through the playoffs and to the Fizzy Pop League next season, they could be poised for a return to the Premiership. Buying a Premier League club at this point wouldn't have the financial upside of investing in a big club playing in the lower divisions. Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, and QPR are other clubs that come to mind.
They just got a new owner....from Iceland. They just got a new owner this year....from Iceland. Man City seems a logical choice, if I were a multi-millionaire/billionaire shopping for footie teams while rubbing my hands and evil laughing bwaaaa haaaa haaaa haaaaaa haaaaa.
It would be awesome if they bought into City (one of the best youth academies in England) but the price tag is something like 160 million pounds, and the scary part is that it looks like the deposed prime minister of Thailand, who people want to charge with crimes against humanity, is the leading candidate to buy the club right now. My life would be damn near perfect if DCU and Man City were owned by the same group.
Although not at these team's level, Manhattan Sports Capital Partners are moving slowly to buy Coventry City. Their spokesman, Gary Hopkins, has scouted out their grounds, the Ricoh Arena, as a model for DC United's maybe, perhaps, someday-to-be stadium.
Damn. How awesome would it be to have DCU play out of the Convention Center and have a Forrest friendly every year?
I talked to Gary before a CCC match - it appears that our new stadium may use Coventry as a model, not necessarily copying every detail, but using it as a starting point.
man, I really hope so ... looks pretty damn sweet ... http://www.fussballtempel.net/uefa/ENG/Arena_Coventry.html
