The dates and fixtures are announced: Tuesday, September 17 Valencia v Liverpool Basel v Spartak Moscow Wednesday, September 25 Spartak Moscow v Valencia Liverpool v Basel Wednesday, October 2 Liverpool v Spartak Moscow Valencia v Basel Tuesday, October 22 Spartak Moscow v Liverpool Basel v Valencia Wednesday, October 30 Liverpool v Valencia Spartak Moscow v Basel Tuesday, November 12 Valencia v Spartak Moscow Basel v Liverpool
Tuesdays are good for Liverpool. Balenthia will be easier to defeat than some might think. Playing in Moscow before November is always good too.
I figured our away match to Valencia would be the toughest fixture we'd have in this group. I'm glad we're getting it over with right away.
ESPN2 will be showing a game on the 17th, but no word yet as to which one. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/schedule?date=20020917&network=2 Dave
I think this is going to be a bit of a tricky group thanks to Spartak. They are very hard to beat at home regardless of the weather.... I also could see Valencia slipping up against them when they travel to Moscow...Spanish clubs always have a tough time playing in the north. I think the outcome for us will depend on how well we play against Valencia...thankfully they have sold more players then they have bought, so that's always a plus. Worse case situation I think is us placing third and going to the Uefa Cup...at least we will still be in Europe. All in all we should come out in the top two but certainly we shouldn't take this for granted.
The provision for third-place finishers going into the UEFA Cup was removed after last season. But I do agree that we should not take this, nor any other match, for granted. Remember how bad we looked against Liberec and Rapid Bucharest (at least our finishing)? Dave
Let's face it, that group is the easiest combination of opponents we could have landed with, compared to the outcome of the other groups. If we don't qualify from this, then we really do need to start asking questions. Agree that Moscow will be tricky, but let's not forget that we went to Kyiv last season and did a plum job there. This is by no means harder. Valencia are obviously the tough nut, expect us to batten down the hatches and win some more friends in the Spanish press over there. At Anfield, we can do anyone, any time. That will be a cracking night. I just booked easyjet to Geneva for the Basel game. A friend is putting me up in Basel, so I shall be at that one. In the home end, sadly ...
Don’t forget to wear your scarf and perhaps you should lead your section in a rousing version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.. Funny, I heard the crowd at Real Madrid’s game singing it today..!!!
Liverpool will rock, Diouf has been an awesome signing... he will do very well in the future along with Owen in forward spot
Matt.... I'll be going to the Valencia match up in Spain...if you get the chance to head over..love to meet up with ya...I have a few tickets from a friend in the buisness.
Bastards. £115 each way to Barcelona. Motherfuckers. The price drops steeply either side of the game, of course. No good to me though. Mmmm. I'll get back to you.
I'll be doing it by train from London.... I haven't made anything final yet...so I'll get back with you too. Ryan Air is pretty cheap to Spain usually.
