Hey guys, so just a random question. Seeing the two stars over the Earthquakes crest made me think...Why were they given the two titles that the Dynamo Earthquakes won? Was it simply because those titles belonged to the city of San Jose and they thought it should stay there? Because the club that is the Earthquakes now obviously shouldn't have any claim to them because it's a completely different organization (ownership, etc). Does anyone know if there has been any precedence in other sports where a past championship team has relocated and didn't get to keep their titles?

I really think the Dynamo should just put 4 stars over the crest the next time they get new jerseys haha

Perhaps 1 more Moon should be added to the Stars above the Dynamo Crest, for the Supporters' Shield won in 2005 too... :D

I do believe that it was decreed by MLS. All records prior to the move of the team to Houston remained with the franchise which was put in hiatus (whatever the heck that means).

Unfair? perhaps - but MLS owns the teams so it can do whatever it wishes.

The players who donned the orange in 2006 were allowed to keep their championship rings, and that's what really counts.

Speaking of this, should be glad that CUSA didn't win anything yet, so no such considerations...

    Oh wait, they did:
    What now...?

To the OP, please research the Cleveland Browns of the United States' NFL in order to read what is done for city's that have politicos and local fans looking to retain the honors won by their city's team, regardless of the owner/moniker.

Doesn't always happen though, please research the Tennessee Titans of the same United States NFL.

    Correct.
Johnny Unitas's all-time passing records are listed in the NFL Hall of Fame as Indianpolis Colts records and our Earl Campbell's all-time Oilers rushing stats are listed in the NFL Hall of Fame as Tennessee Titans records.
Which anyone that follows the NFL, that is all laughable.
THAT'S specifically why in 1999 the Cleveland Browns made the correct choice to honor the city of Cleveland and it's people when Art Modell moved the Browns in 1999 compared to when Bud Adams moved the Oilers in 1997 or the old Colts owner in 1983.
So no kidding it doesn't always happen pre 1999. Haha! Is that breaking news!
Since a precident has been established by the City of Cleveland, it was on the table for AEG to honor San Jose and leave their crest, colors and records intact for their city when the players were moved to H-Town, this is what the OP was asking about.

Where the records for the Houston Thunderbears and the Houston Horror combined or were they allowed to stay separate?

    PS

Did Hilton get to take the manilla folder that held the Comets records with him or did those go to mayor Parker?

I would like to think this only applies if and when the exact same City name and city moniker were resurected to play once again.
Like how San Jose came back, as, well, San Jose Earthquakes or Cleveland Browns. Same colors same name so they get to honor the same past accomplishments done in the same city.

San Jose and Dallas are the only cities that bring up the whole: "You were gifted a Championship Team" deal.

I tell them: "Fine. "That only means we have 4 Championships not 2!"

They Say: "It doesn't work like that those were won in San Jose."

I say: "EXACTLY so SHUT UP!! Those 2 'other' Stars were earned in HOUSTON not San Jose!!!"
