http://nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=1491 ...in both English & Spanish, but tape delayed until 10 PM ET, with three rebroadcasts. I assume they're broadcasting on tape delay due to the late agreement and obligations (probably too strong a word, but hey) with the Brazilian and/or Colombian (or Uruguayan) leagues. Can't be a bad thing.
Well this should be interesting for anyone hoping GolTV is looking at broadcasting NASL games next season. Even if it is just a one off, pretty cool!
GolTV is not looking to broadcast any games. There is no national audience for D2. There is not even a local one. But if Traffic is willing to pay just like the USL does with FSC, then they might show a few games. GolTV is not showing this game out of the goodness of their heart. Obviously they are getting paid. And it happened quickly since the game is only in two days. Not exactly ideal planning here. Outside of diehards like those who post here, no one will know about this. I am just not sure if it is worth the cash to Traffic. USL-Pro had its championship game broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel to a much larger audience. Did it do anything for the league? Did anyone watch? Not that I can see. This seems more designed for Downs to use to attract investors. Or the Miami based Traffic just wanted their team's final to be broadcast on television. If this wasn't in South Florida, then we might not be seeing this game on GolTV.
I was at a soccer tournament in South Florida the day after the game, and we had a rain delay, the game was on a TV, and all the kids started watching and cheering out of nowhere. So it probably did help
You've never been to Florida (or the other heavily latin states). They have a Spanish language station and simulcast the feed with English commentary, there's plenty of interest between the feeds and no other league pays GolTV to broadcast their games (I'm not assuming the NASL does either considering GolTV's headquarters is somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes from Lockhart).
Yeah GOLTV's primary demographic probably does not include Canada. I think this has everything to do with the NASL and Strikers being based in the same market as GOLTV and them having worked with Traffic in the past(Miami FC's shirt sponsor in 2006 and I think they've worked on TV deals or Latin tournaments over the years). I do not think we'll see any NASL games in national TV, GOLTV or otherwise, any time soon. It makes ZERO financial sense for them to pay to get on a national broadcast. The final, maybe semifinals as well? Sure. But regular weekly or even monthly games would be a waste of resources. If they are going to spend money on TV it would be much better directed towards getting games on local TV, preferably road games(i.e. have Carolina broadcast a game aired only in the Atlanta market) in addition to the webcasts.
I have been to Florida actually(Tampa) and love it there. What you say makes sense though, I just wasn't sure about viewership for those leagues. Hopefully NASL improves there regular season stream quality and I'm just fine with that as I watched a lot of games this season on the internet and maybe playoff games on Gol TV or another station will also happen next year. I'm really looking forward to the championship game tomorrow on GOL TV and hope its a great game!
