See Matt Law’s piece. It’s been confirmed Barkley has been chosen as the penalty taker. Which is roflcopter legend of wtf??

    It's not complicated.

His game plan having just gone out the window, having lost an important player and goal threat, he went for experience in a big match... which makes sense, tbh.

In any event you're talking as if ALL players at a certain age direct equivalents which is an... odd argument.
That's because Rudi was out and Giroud hadn't been doing to job for us.

Anyway, those are both reasons why he SHOULD have gone for experience.

You came on here with one example calling for him to leave because he didn't play in a match. Sure, we've voiced our frustration with Pulisic not playing yesterday. You've used the smallest of sample sizes calling for him to leave and that it won't work. That's a terrible attitude to have. How is the US supposed to get better if the best players just up and quit because they don't play 2 consecutive matches.

The biggest 'issue' with having Pulisic here is the d*ck heads it's attracting! Also anybody that laughably calls themselves a Chelsea fan and are already throwing Lampard under a bus need to f*ck off to the Madrid boards where they will fit in nicely! Bloody he'll it's been FIVE games, five games with RAW kids! Anybody that thinks we are going to win the Champions league with this side needs their head testing! Anybody that thinks Pulisic should 'ship out' every time he doesn't get picked needs their head testing! Some of these boys have been fantastic with the TINY amount of experience they've had in the world's toughest league and the ONE game theyve had in the worlds toughest cup competition!! Seriously how easy are we supposed to think the Premier League is!? It's BLOODY hard and the players (including Pulisic) are bloody young! GIVE THEM TIME! Lampard is doing a fine job but FFS don't expect them to be lifting the Premier League or Champions League trophy this season! Oh and anybody that thinks Wolves are sh*t also need their heads testing!

Andy, are you hopped up on goofballs?

    1. His game plan went out the window because Mason Mount got hurt? Look, Mount is a nice player, but ffs. If your tactical plan goes out the window when he gets hurt, your tactical plan is terrible.
    2. I am not equating all players of the same age, that’s ludicrous. But Pedro and Pulisic are similar players. So if Lampard is under instructions to play the youth, why isn’t he? Nor can you argue that Pulisic isn’t experienced - he has played in the CL quite a bit (a lot more than Mount who was making his CL debut!!).
    3. I’d take this argument more seriously if he had brought on Pulisic against Wolves instead of Barkley. What was the point of that?
    4. Your argument is we started Tomori because Rudiger was unavailable? The same Rudiger that started the match? Uh.....

Some of Lampard’s tactical decisions have been bad. It’s ok, we can say that out loud.

People engaging with trolls, nice and stamfordbridgelions these days :notworthy:

This game did not appear to be one where we were all that bad.

60% possession, 22 shots (6 on target) while holding the opposition to only 2 on target.. missed a PK to boot and suffered an early injury in the process. I'm not making excuses but I'm also not saying this was that brutal.

Worse things have happened in the group stage with more experienced management. If Frank persists with Barks to no avail over an extended period of time, then I will get worried. The same way I got worried when Jose stuck with Ivanovic no matter what, or when Conte refused to change tactics or players, or when Sarri was incapable of doing anything about our Jorginho problem. Only then will I be like Ok, we're ********ed.

    But that isn't happening.

    We're ok.

I agree, I think that’s right. I do think we suffered a bit from having more volume than quality of shots, but on another day we could have walked this easily at 2-0.

That said, as to whether or not we’re ok with Lampard, I’m not sure. Some of his tactical decisions have not been great, and some of the things people are saying in his defense don’t pass the smell test, but people get angry at that because he’s Frank Lampard. For instance, making Barkley his default penalty taker whenever Barkley is on the pitch seems nuts! That doesn’t mean I want him fired, but if Sarri has done that we’d be laughing at him, especially since it suggests a bigger role for Barkley.

That isn't what I said it's clearly in the wolves thread. I said he should leave because his chances going forward will be few and far between.

Iij then told u guys he wouldn't play Tuesday because he is behind mount, willian and pedro on the wing and you guys said I was dumb he would play....well its wed...who was right? He will also be behind chop when he returns which will put him barely as making the 18 if he is lucky and mostly playing early cup matches which you guys said is dumb...but all that has been proven true. The us improving has nothing to do with chelsea and absolutely isn't waiting on pulisic at chelsea to improve.

    Really? :(
Well, it wasn't just the loss of Mount, obviously.

He couldn't play one of his best CB's in Rudi, his major defensive midfielder in Kante and then lost Mount after only 10 mins or whatever it was.

That means the side, already with some inexperienced guys on the field in defence and up front, would likely feel under some pressure.

Under those circumstances, yes, I can see him thinking some experience is required.
As I said, I thought he'd have bought on Puli. I'm not saying it would have been a mistake to have done so... I'm simply saying it wasn't that ludicrous NOT to have done it.

But also, regarding this stuff about Lamps being 'under orders to play da yoof'... so you're saying we should criticise Lamps when he plays certain players and things don't work out... but when he plays other players, (da yoof), and things work out, that's only because it he was TOLD to do it?

    Really??? THAT'S your argument?
    ???

I don't think I mentioned anything about Rudi or Tomori in that context. I just said that Rudi was out in THIS game, wasn't he?
We can say that if they clearly have been... and they haven't. All of them can be justified in terms of what he's got available and, I'm guessing, what he's seen in training.

So I'm quite happy to question some decisions, (such as bringing Barkley on... although he did OK in open play until the PK), but to say they're 'bad', to use your word, is a statement that can't be justified at this stage.

Maybe that will change but five game into the league season where we've lost our best player and couldn't bring anyone in... no, we can't say that yet.

On the penalty taker business... can I just point out that, IIRC, Ross HAS scored all the ones he's been asked to take this season and in pre-season. So the idea making him the designated guy when he's on the pitch is some ludicrous, crackpot idea is obviously total BS.

In all honesty, if that is the case, both Willian and Jorgi, (who BOTH put him under pressure), want bloody shooting.

I said you said that. You're implying he needs to leave because isn't going to play. We're all of 6 matches into this season. If you actually watch Chelsea like most if not all on here do, you'll notice that Pedro and Willian leave A LOT to be desired. You've made virtually no points except to say he will play less and less and less. What happens if he plays or starts on Sunday? What excuse then? Where were for the first 4 league matches? You just happen to show up the day he doesn't play....

I'm not implying anything...I am saying exactly what us right there for you to read. If you have to start with the 'ur implying' to try to insist I mean something else that just isn't true. I've written it af as in and it's clear. Mount leaves a lot to be desired too..that doesn't matter.

Why would he play sunday?...mount is hurt if mount us healthy he'll be lucky to get min as a sub. You'll remember he played his best match against liverpool because their style fits him well.

Just because I don't post doesn't mean I don't read. Also that's funny from the guy who asked about pks when lamps explained it post match...didn't u watch?

Barkley has played in the world cup in 2014 and therefore by your logic he should play ahead of both Mount and Pulisic who have never played in the WC.
