Analysis of Clubwatcher Marco Gerling FC Utrecht has little to say for most of the first half against the strong Germans, who give away very little space and are on top of everything. The 1-0 was deserved given the picture of the game and the 2-0 just before halftime was a sledgehammer blow, after a seemingly easy free kick. In the atmospheric Europa-Park stadium, a small miracle has to happen for Ron Jans' team to turn this around. A conversion or substitution seems to be the only remedy to get a different picture of the game. A picture in which FC Utrecht gets a better grip on the opponent and manages to get crosses and chances into the sixteen.
Edit: Photos of the away stand and the associated facilities are shared on X. And they are not at all happy about that in England. "Looks like an amateur club," it sounds. "You can't all go to the toilet at the same time," adds another. "An absolute disgrace," can be read further. "Demolish that stadium during the match," is the advice. "They should have put up some more mobile toilets." One fan tries to look at it positively: "At least those bushes are going to get enough water."
British media have no mercy for Aston Villa after defeat at Go Ahead Eagles The Lions were still 0-1 ahead in De Adelaarshorst, but then everything went wrong. They also saw that in England. The Guardian wrote after the 2-1. "What seemed to be an easy win turned into a turnaround. Mats Deijl shot the ball past Emiliano Martínez, after which a late return for Villa was no longer possible. A fireworks show erupted, while Go Ahead celebrated." At The Telegraph, people were mainly cynical. "Aston Villa thought the storm was over. Then came the twelfth best club in the Netherlands and the English were left completely wet and shaken. In a small but hostile stadium, Villa lacked conviction. There may not be a European malaise, but Emery's defense was played open with poignant ease by Go Ahead. What should that be on Sunday against Manchester City and Erling Haaland?" The Sun already wrote about the Europa League final in Istanbul. "Villa fans had better not book a flight for the final battle. Maybe coach Unai Emery is a genius as far as this tournament is concerned, but Villa went down to storm Benjamin." The BBC was also baffled. "A shocking defeat for Aston Villa. Mistakes cost the Premier League formation the head. The loss was ultimately my own fault."
Feyenoord on Rapport: Valente star in difficult win in De Kuip against Panathinaikos: Luciano Valente was the big star at Feyenoord on Thursday evening in the Europa League match against Panathinaikos. The midfielder received the highest mark in the player report of the Rotterdam team. The midfielder received a 7.5 for his performance. Timon Wellenreuther also received a high mark. The German had some good saves against Panathinaikos and earned a 7. Anis Hadj Moussa, the creator of the important 2-1, hardly stood out in Rotterdam-Zuid apart from his goal and received a 6. Givairo Read, responsible for the 1-1 in the first half, earned a 6.5.
FC Utrecht on Rapport: six passes after a hopeless defeat against SC Freiburg. The only ones who earned a pass were Vasilis Barkas, Siebe Horemans, Mike van der Hoorn, jubilee Nick Viergever, Alonzo Engwanda and Zidane Iqbal. The lowest marks were for Souffian El Karouani, Miguel Rodríguez, Sébastien Haller and Adrian Blake.
AHM is the kind of player that Feyenoord need; although silent for much of the match, his talent creates that one moment that changes the entire outcome. He is the Igor Paixao of this squad. You have to remember how Igor would also disappear in certain matches, only to pop up with a brilliant goal.
the Sun: 'In their first meeting with English opponents, the Eagles soared as captain Mats Deijl, despite being a defender, scored coolly as a striker and gave them their second win in this group stage'.
Remember him? It's the Argentinian goalkeeper with his obscene behaviour at the WC after winning the title. Good to see him being shamed for losing against GAE. Couldnot happen to a nicer guy.

7650 Golden point for PSV: Ricardo Pepi blasts Eindhoven team deep into injury time alongside at Olympiakos PSV has won a valuable Champions League point in an idiotic way. The Eindhoven team seemed to be going down against Olympiakos, but an extremely late goal by substitute Ricardo Pepi still resulted in a point: 1-1. On the list of chewed-up football clichés, 'witch's cauldron' is quite high, especially when it comes to European duels in Greece or Turkey. But still: the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium was swirling from minute one on Tuesday evening. Or actually even well before kick-off. But the celebration and at times deafening noise fell silent in injury time, thanks to substitute Ricardo Pepi. In a way, PSV's current Champions League campaign told the story of the entire season. The football season started a bit wobbly (including a 1-3 home defeat against Union Saint-Gilloise), then a better phase followed (and it became 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen), now the Eindhoven team is running at full speed (as evidenced by the 6-2 stunt win over Napoli). The last two league matches were also won, so coach Peter Bosz opted for exactly the same eleven as in those matches. And so Guus Til was back in the striker's position, Ricardo Pepi started on the bench. In that line-up, the first tentative threat came from PSV in the second minute. A goal by Ismael Saibari was also rightly disallowed for offside, but otherwise the Eindhoven team had a very difficult time. Olympiakos became dangerous from the sides several times, one of those wingers also signed for the 1-0. Gelson Martins (who saw an earlier shot tapped wide by Matej Kovar) was launched and left the PSV keeper without a chance with a hard blow. PSV could not pose any real danger before halftime. Except for a header by Guus Til, who after a corner by Joey Veerman and a mistake by the Greek keeper couldn't get his head on the ball. After the break, PSV started hopefully, but a shot by Ivan Perisic went just wide of the wrong side of the post, after which the deep Til did not get the ball under control. After an hour, he was replaced by Pepi, while Couhaib Driouech also joined. But it was Olympiakos that had a great chance immediately afterwards: a volley from Martins went over the crossbar. Chances? There were hardly any for a long time, so Peter Bosz was forced to bring in Esmir Bajraktarevic and Paul Wanner as well. The latter became dangerous shortly afterwards, but he shot just wide. A cross from Saibari and a touched shot from Driouech also didn't result in any goals. But that goal did fall in the final stages, when Pepi hit the shot from close range. A valuable point for PSV, who are now on five points from four Champions League matches.
Xavi has a better game today, one assist and 2 near assists had Muani not missed those 2 easy chances. Van de Ven had another of his trademark goal running from the edge of his side penalty box. Liverpool rebounds nicely and they are much better with a healthy Gravenberch. The game would be out of reach if not for Courtois' performance. Not sure if Liverpool can win EPL this year so perhaps they can win Champion Leagues instead. Bayern-PSG is also a good match. I am impressed with Bayern form so far this season. Both are contenders to win Champion Leagues. I did not watch PSV but glad they tied the game in injury time. Hope Ajax will do well tomorrow; same for Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.
Looks a bit, stats wise, like the PSV match. Only 1 shot on target XG very low too. Alders debut in the CL.
A little further on, Carlos Forbs is the big man at Club Brugge. The striker, who made so little impression in Amsterdam last season, is against FC Barcelona for the umpteenth time of value with a goal and an assist.
