The results I've seen tonight are a disgrace to MLS and US Soccer. Columbus Losing 6-0 to Morelia is shamefull! This is a team that is supposed to challege for MLS Cup this year. I can't even wear my Crew jersey to my local Mexican League soccer game this Sunday for fear of ridicule. L.A. is another story. Letting the Necaxa B team and a 40 year old striker beat them in their own back yard. I guess this justs puts MLS in its place in comparrison to the Mexican League. Sad, ain't it. I'm sure the second leg will be closer, when it's to late to matter. Sorry for the rant.

Yeah...where are the 1-1 scores now. But, can a little bit of this be chalked up to both of the MLS teams just played their first competitive league game of the season on Saturday?

Hey, look at it this way. We have to give the Mexicans something to cheer about so it hurts really bad when the Nats beat them down again in Dallas. 2-0!

Ok, ok, enough living in the past. I love it when we play Mexico.

That said, I think MLS is a quality league but we have some catching up to do with the league south of the border.

Perhaps a statement as to the size of the gap between club and country? It's just another stumble on the long journey.

Even when the Fire were craptacular last season, we managed to hold our own against these teams.

    Way to go, morons.

What's the average payroll per team in the Mexican premier league? I bet it's more than 3 times the $1.7M in MLS. We aren't doing that bad overall considering that.

This is bad for the league. The new fan who is thinking of attending a game or two will see this and think MLS is not worth it.

Well as a "new fan" with zero prev soccer experiance prior to this season to draw on, it doesn't bother me.

This may sound odd to you guys but I'd rather watch two bad MLS teams play then the best in Europe.

I just don't care what happens in soccer outside the USA.

    Crew/La getting destroyed:NOT SO BAD!

so the crew and la got destroyed, IT IS NOT HORRIBLE LIKE EVERYONE SAYS!

    THE GOOD
    1. MFL teams taking the cup more seriously: Mfl teams are finally taking the cup more seriously. It will help the champions cup grow, and it will help mls teams get better playing mfl teams that really want to win and are playing seriously. It is bad to get destroyed (crew and la) but mls teams, young american players (and american coaches) can only improve by playing tough mfl teams.

    2. most of you might not know but today Toluca also had a game against municipal in guatemala. To the surprise of everyone Toluca took their stars (Cardozzo scored a goal) and 45 thousand + fans went to the game (knowing Cardozzo was going and with a good team). It is great to see mexican teams taking their stars and helping the tourney get some good attendance.

everyone is saying it is an embarrasment, i think it is a shame that new england and san jose got eliminated early and didn't get to play mfl teams.

it is not bad for the league. It can only help mls teams improve by playing mfl teams. I care about the quality of play improving in mls that is the most important thing.

i was surprised at the la result. Necaxa has been playing very conservatively in the mfl and havent won in a couple of games.

but if not mistaken Sigi sent Ruiz to play 10 minutes from the end. WTF was he thinking???

Ruiz had surgery on his tooth after he broke a tooth after the G's Crew game last weekend.

keep checking the soccer tv telemundo site in upcoming days. Not it doesnt show the morelia game but they might add it later (since it was just played) and we might see it this saturday hopefully.

6-0 doesn't have anything to do with a payroll and everything with playing bad.

I guess you missed the word OVERALL. Ofcourse, this particular game went horriblely wrong for the Crew (and Galaxy) but this sort of routs happen in soccer. Give MLS just $4 million per team and see what they can do. Each team could have Friedel/ Keller, Reyna, O'Brien, Sanneh, reserve teams and regularly kick Mexican a$$ despite still spending less money than them. There's no shame in losing to the richer, century old teams once in a while.

Of course there's no shame in it.

But I find the age of the clubs a better excuse than the difference in money. Besides that MLS' strange way of handling transfers and such, and not having a 'name' makes it harder for them to attract young talent.

Difference in money can surely be overcome. feyenoord did in last years UEFA. Ajax did in 92, 95 and almost 96.

You need young talent and tactical knowledge. A few experienced players to lead the youngsters and let them grow, some luck and experience. Playing better teams makes a team better through experience.

That's another thing I forgot to mention. If Champion's Cup success were on top of MLS' priority list we'd see 'name' teams and less parity but it's not. Talents here are very evenly divided between teams. I'd rather each team have a good shot at the title before the season begins than be a fan of NAC Breda's of the Eridivisie. It's the way to build fanbase in a young league.

I know it can happen. You can add DC United of the '90s (CCC, Inter-American Cup holders) to that list but richer teams will always have the overall advantage, win out most of the time and have more of these routs.

That's where money is missed. Some of our most experienced players (ex. Friedel, Reyna, Sanneh, Kirovski) are over there and MLS with tight budget can't afford them. We already have plenty of young talent for an 8 year old league.

To paraphrase V.S. comment on another thread,

..."it has to do with the TFC threatening to pull the pre pre Libertadores if they [the MFL] dont take the TFC CC seriously"...

    Crew/La getting destroyed:NOT A BAD THING!

The question is, after last night's games, how long will the MFL teams continue to take the competion seriously?

Or possibly a better question, Do they need to take it seriously?

MFL teams, regardless of their level of commitment, have always done well in this competition. And last night they embarrassed the two pre-season favorites to win the MLS title.

I know people can make excuses, and point to the fact that it was only 2 games, but how is it going to look if the four teams in the semis are all from the MFL?
