Yeah with Premiership games against “lesser” teams I’m happy with Joe Cole and Hasslebaink, But to win games against the top sides like the Arse and Manure and to do well in Europe we need Veron and Crespo. Scott Parker? Hhhmmmm, I like him, but he’s a lesser player than Joe Cole. Whats he bringing to the party that we haven't already got? I’d take 3 signings in the window; Chivu, Nedved and Ronaldo As opposed to the Chelsea greats of Mickey Droy, Alan Hudson and Kerry Dixon.
Anyone have stats on Chelsea's record with Veron and without? Seems like most of the losses and ties came without Veron.
Well, yeah, but he hasn't played since early in the year, when I would say our form has been better. If he was playing intermittently, you might have a point. I think Gallas is the best indicator of who needs to play in order for us to win. Our results are much better, IIRC, when he's in.
Rosicky If we buy the youngster can he play Veron's role? I must confess I haven't seen him play. Does he play better in the hole or deeper in midfield like JSV?
Like it or not, Veron is vital to the side and our best wins have come with him in the team. Its not that hes a great or consistant player, but hes a playmaker and a dangerous player who creates space for the rest of the team even when he doesnt play well. He does this by drawing opponents out to him (give Veron space and time at your peril). Unless we get a new playmaker into the team I cant see us winning the champions leage or the premiership with Veron fit and firing.

Well at least that explains why he's been out so long. The transfer window closes on Saturday night and we don't look close to signing anyone. I hope that means Ranieri is happy with the side and doesn't want to upset a fine oiled machine, but based on recent performance I doubt that's the case. I don't see any hope in signing a short term replacement for Veron. Cole needs to step up his game. I would say the same of Gronkjaer (one of my favorite players) but I'm afraid its not there for him. Perhaps Geremi can fit alongside Lampard and Petit can sub/rotate with Makelele.
According to the Daily Star Juan Sebastien Veron will recover from his back injury in time to return by the start of April. I wonder if that would be the 1st?
How ironic would it be if we won the league and he didn't have enough games in to qualify for a medal.
