I could not believe it when I was listening to RDP and the above happened. It must be heartbreaking for the Belenenses' fans who now need to endure a season of Liga de Honra football when their team, on paper, had everything to be at least a mid-table team. Extremely disappointing for Portuguese football to lose yet another team with a rich history to the second division. Too bad...

They had the 6th best attack, but the 6th worst defense. You need to defend well in order to survive. IMO, Couceiro is not a good coach. He overachieved with Setúbal, but he has faltered with Alverca, FC Porto and now Belenenses. And to think, Sporting presidential hopeful Abrantes Mendes wanted the guy to lead the Sporting SAD if he had won

Way B and not A? I'm a little confused why Belenenses went down and Academica stayed up both finished on 39 points. Belenenses finished on minus 2 goals and Academica on minus 11. on head to head, Belenenses beat and drawed with Academica. can any one tell me how they worked it out?
Re: Way B and not A? I believe that it had to do with the overall head-to-head points accrued between the three teams with the same amount of points. Belenenses had the worse record over the other two teams (Naval and Académica) and when it came down to the numbers, Belenenses lost out...

Foi esta a resolução da Comissão Disciplinar da Liga que, ontem, deu razão ao Belenenses no processo movido contra o clube de Barcelos. Para a Comissão Disciplinar da Liga, o Gil Vicente não respeitou o regulamento da própria Liga e recorreu a tribunais comuns para resolver uma questão de âmbito desportivo. Esta atitude viola também o regulamento da FIFA, pelo que o clube de Barcelos terá sido infractor de dois regulamentos. O "Caso Mateus" teve origem na inscrição do atleta como jogador profissional depois de este ter sido inscrito pelo Lixa, clube do qual se transferiu para o Gil Vicente, como amador. Como tal, e de acordo com os regulamentos atrás referidos, Mateus não poderia ter sido inscrito nem actuado na Liga Betandwin 2005/06. A inscrição foi rejeitada pela Liga de clubes, levando o Gil Vicente a recorrer aos tribunais comuns, nomeadamente ao Tribunal Administrativo e Fiscal de Braga, que considerou o assunto como sendo de âmbito desportivo, tendo rejeitado o pedido dos gilistas. O Gil Vicente recorreu então ao Tribunal do Porto que deu razão aos de Barcelos num primeiro momento, para dias depois, e mediante uma exposição da FPF, considerar inválida a sua própria decisão. Os gilistas podem, no entanto, recorrer ao Conselho de Justiça da Federação Portuguesa de Futebol, e esperar que a razão esteja do seu lado. Caso tal não aconteça, o clube de Barcelos descerá à Liga de Honra, ficando o Belenenses na Liga Betandwin. Looks like you're right. They reversed the decision. Gil Vicente stays up. A Comissão Disciplinar da Liga alterou a decisão do «caso Mateus». Maisfutebol explica-lhe como foi possível dar razão ao Belenenses e apenas oito dias depois alterar tudo e manter o Gil Vicente no campeonato principal.

O presidente do Belenenses entende que foi feita justiça hoje pela Comissão Disciplinar (CD) da Liga, que decidiu dar razão ao clube do Restelo no "caso Mateus", motivando a descida do Gil Vicente à Liga de Honra.
