Best of luck to Ronald. I remember reading that he wanted to play in Mexico - I hope he gets his wish. Too bad he wasn't getting it done here. Coming off the game Saturday it's probably not a surprise - he didn't have a very good game in what was probably the standout DC United performance of the last few seasons.

 

Pretty funny though, because most people here wanted United to let him go before the season. instead, we got rid of Reyes, and so the saga began ...........

 

so...should we bring back our raincoats to matches again? Usually the Salva community goes to RFK in full force to ruin our day when ever one of their heroes is let go.

 

Sorry to see Ronald go. That his touch had all but deserted him made it necessary.

Could this also mean that Quaranta is just about ready to return?

 

I had thought almost the same exact thing. What IS the latest word on Quaranta and his return date? Might he be able to get some minutes against the Rhinos this Wednesday in a game that doesn't "count"?

 

I was a bit surprised the Cerritos started instead of Adu the last two games. Two games ago, I thought Cerritos is coming off a bad game -- Adu will start. Last game, I thought Cerritos is coming of an unimpressive game -- Adu will start.

I couldn't understand why Nowak was starting him. Now I do. It was his final chance to prove he belonged on the team.

Cerritos didn't step up. Eskedarian did.

 

Cerritos made a lovely (and difficult) assist on Moreno's goal. Best of luck Ronald. Being a salary cap casualty doesn't make it hurt any less, but good luck outside of MLS.

So I guess we now have two open roster spots and one player currently on the roster who will probably go on the disabled list.

I wonder what the other footfall will be?

Well, as someone whose been calling for this move every since the MLS salaries got announced, all I can say is it's about damn time!

I called for it when the salaries came out, I called for it when he failed to score in 10 - TEN! - preseason games and I called for it when he wasn't playing when the season started. Even after he started. uh, starting I called for it even though he was somewhat productive because he was still taking up TOO MUCH CAP ROOM and United was handcuffed in terms of making a move.

I'm not taking credit for this or anything, just glad to see the team bite the bullet. This ought to send a pretty clear message to Stewart, Quaranta and all the other players who are taking up a good chunk of cap room and not delivering bang for the buck. Produce, or you're outta here.

Here's hoping the team uses the cap room to get a forward with some size who can put the ball in the hole.

Oh, and thanks to Goff for the 411. He's been cranking out the stories on United and the nats lately and we all really appreciate the ink. Poor guy probably thought he had a day off and now he has to write this and the Open Cup item!

Ronald's a nice enough guy, but like so many veteran strikers that we've brought in over the last couple of years, just didn't produce. I wish him the best of luck.

 

Amen! It IS about DAMNED time! This is was a fully necessary move for such an outrageously over-priced player.

I don't read that Santino is ready to come back from this waiving.
I read that Eski stepped up and scored two goals last weekend.

 

I am proud to say that Ronald Cerritos was a member of my team. He's a class individual who has had a standout career. I'm sad to see someone like that leave.

But, Ronald hasn't been as effective as his early days in San Jose, and it was clear that the league talent had caught up to him. I knew this was coming ever since Ray Hudson desparately tried to salt the earth by trading for Cerritos. That trade wasn't about acquiring Cerritos, it was about trying to discourage any other coaching candidates from taking the United job, thereby saving Hudson's job. It didn't work, and we're set to alienate a section of the fanbase again. Just like re-acquiring Diaz Arce, it just wasn't a wise move.

As for the salary slot, well we have a ton of forwards, but we still need another forward. I wonder who caused this move to happen? Hopefully there is a solid striker who has agreed to terms that precipitated creating cap space.

The roster deadline is almost certainly the cause for the timing.

And, Cerritos starting the last two games may well have been to improve his "shopping around" value. Unfortunately, a waive (instead of a trade) means it didn't work.

 

Cerritos counted, what, $170k against the cap? Add to that the money DC has stashed in Kevin Payne's ashtray and they've got a tiny bit more for two open spots on the roster (potentially up to four if they shelf Q2, and Martins).

Still need to score, but I like a forward corps consisting of Jamie, Freddy, Eski, and Tino.

Defensive depth is still needed, and some midfield depth (Ara's really the only depth guy) would be nice, too.

Maybe the team sits on the open spots for a bit, to see what (if anything) shakes out from the other teams.

 

I understand why this was done, but I'll be sorry to see him go.

I hope to hell not, unless Anderton wants to come here for league minimum salary.

I guess the trade rumors to Colombus got squashed. I'd love to see Chad Marshall here. Hope DC doesn't do anything stupid and try and sign AP Chacon away from whatever A-League team he is on right now (Atlanta maybe?).
