Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane Leagues don't "give" a spot to the cup winners. It's an uefa rule ,it's not like they have a choice. In fact cupwinners have the highest priority over all other teams that qualify for uefa cup.
Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane Yeah, but Champions League is not the same as Uefa Cup. Nobody cares about it since Champions League was expanded and basically took most of the best teams out of Uefa Cup. Whatever.
Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane Nice article on Andy http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/component/option,com_topdrawer/Itemid,251/nid,3302/
Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane European championships are basically a playoff system. So why not send the best playoff team? Liverpool haven't won the league in years, but we've done more than other English teams in the Champs League recently.
Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane Can a mod change the title? http://ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_4947968.html Lubahn is a 91 for anyone that was wondering. Don't think it was explicitly stated in the thread. Great news that our 2011 U-20's already have had 2 guys go pro recently.
Re: "Cercle Brugge goes American" - Andy Labaun and Patrick Lane Gersman if you are reading, post here so we can rep you for these recent great articles. This summers theme: White boys to Belgium, brown boys to Mexico.
Re: LMU's GK Pat Lane signs I didn't realize Lubahn already was EU eligible. Which is probably why he was selected by the Friedel's folks.
Here's some stuff on Andy Lubahn: http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008808030508 http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008808040411
pat lane is a top man and the next iker casillas in skills and the next fernando torres in looks, he is the complete package, he is ready to pillage belgium...and will. love you laneo.
Re: LMU's GK Pat Lane signs Maybe because it's fun? Traditional single-table can lead to some pretty lame, anticlimactic endings - championship decided weeks before the end of the season, championship decided by games against teams with nothing left to play for, or a team winning the championship while losing that day's game.
Quick snip: Cathedral Prep's Lubahn, 16, has moved to Belgium to train with Cercle Brugge, a first-division club. After one year, he can earn a European passport and sign a pro contract with a minimum yearly salary of $800,000. here is the link for the article about Lane: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=4059 hopefully the kid will get to play a game for the first team soon!
Yesterday, Patrick Lane played the full 90 minutes with the reserves of Cercle. They've beaten SC Lokeren with 4-3. Andy Lubahn also played the full game and scored 2 goals!
