Well, this has been asked in the past - but i forget, and i wanna know who on this board is from central illinois??????? central illinois!? i'm thinking it would be cool to plan some sort of watch party in either springfield, bloomington-normal, decatur, or champaign or something like that... only, tho, if we have a handfull of ppl... a tentative thought, just give a shout if you'd be interested in something like this and your from central illinois... thanx, emil
Can we set up some sort of a fund for the people in this thread? It will exclude the people who are in Central Illinois attending college, because their goal is noble: GET THE HELL OUT OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS.
i tend to divide illinois up into southern, central, western, northern, and then chicago... at least that's the way the tour illinois book breaks it down but anyways there is a lot of support for the fire in the central illinois cities i listed as well as the surrounding towns... usually tho i only watch the game with my brother and a couple friends. i thought if there would be enough people it would be fun to get a group together to watch a game. if that goes well and people meet each other and get along, maybe we could even arrange some car pooling or something... just a thought.. and central illinois' is pretty damn cool if you ask me chicago's the best city in the u.s.... that's just not a fair comparison
I grew up in Galesburg and played soccer for the town's team in Decatur once. Can't remember where the fields were, but we joked afterwards about radioactive mud, since everyone who made contact with the turf (which is probably everyone in a vintage Central Illinois Soccer League game from the early-mid 80s) came up with a strawberry. The current mayor of Galesburg, Robert Sheehan, was on those teams and he's a Fire fan.
You guys can still set up a fund for me. The more money raised, the faster I can get the hell out of here! Zach told me Chambana wasn't Central Illinois but damn it I knew I was right when I said it was. I think it's considered "East Central Illinois" though.
Ahhh, ya gotta love the Ctown attitude. Anything south of Joliet is "downstate". They just don't understand the quality of life here. All food is fried all beer is domestic all trends started and stopped in late 70s early 80s. The good life. Chambana may be the exception. The Creighton coach will not even move there (yes priscilla this means you. Go jays).
The banjo player in Deliverance probably thought his town is the greatest place in the world. Fried food, trends back in the 50s, you can perch atop a porch and play banjo all day...
I go to school in central Illinois. I wouldn't mind a get together, but unless it happens to be on the U of I campus I can't really get anywhere.
So, it is Downstate! Big deal Hey you got more Cracker Barrels and Steak N Shakes so it's all good. Where were you in KC????
Saturday, 5/17 5:00 PM Fire at New England Revolution FSN Sunday, 5/25 7:30 PM Colorado Rapids at Fire FSN Saturday, 5/31 3:00 PM Fire at San Jose Earthquakes ESPN2 Saturday, 6/7 6:30 PM Fire at DC United FSN Saturday, 6/14 3:00 PM Fire at NY/NJ MetroStars ESPN2 5 of the next 6 games are on basic cable (only may 10th isn't)... meaning any bar in town can show it if you're 19, that means murphy's, legends, whatever
don't forget how much they love nascar over here. I still can't forget going to the hockey game, and this girl who looks to have been 9 years old asks her friend, "Yeah, so who's your favorite Nascar driver?"
what you talkin' about? UIUC has nothing to do with Nascar. U of Iowa has everything to do with crap.
Actually, I'd classify Naperville as western IL. Of course, having grown up 12 miles s. of the border with the despised land of Cheese, anything south of I-90 is southern Illinois to me. Of course, that means I live there now -- in the S. Loop. Also lived in Springfield for 7 years. Guess I could be considered a refugee.
I consider anything south of Joliet to be southern Illinois. Anything west of Route 59 to be western Illinois. Anything north of Chicago is Canada.
