what was the celtic masterplan behind spending £5 million on Rafael Schiedt?

that was the all time best story I have ever heard I still wet myself today over it.

didn't people go to celtic park to see scheidt on display? :D

apparently the team they bought him off sent celtic a video of this brazilian doing keepy up called rafael felipe schiedt.

    -------------------------------------------

also didn't dundee united sign a player and it turned out to be his twin brother?

lol its my fault for supporting the other half of glasgow.

I just think its hilarious that people were convinced he was an almightly player when he was the worlds worst professional footballer and he plays for celtic and his name is shiedt

altogether dream team couldn't have come up with a better story.

That was about 2 years ago they bought him!
Did you hear about Barcelona buying Steve Archibald? or Liverpool buying David Speedie?

    Nuff said!

However they saw the video of him running the full length of the park past 4 defenders and scoring the goal of the season in brazillian football.
Then they saw he had 2 caps for brazil and thought, this guy must be good!
Now this is a painful painful memory to relive and im not going to speak of it anymore.

The Scheidt story is funny, no doubt. But as a Gers fan, I'm not sure I want to start a slagging war over dumb signings clubs have made lately. Let's talk about something else already.

sheidt was an undoubted case of bad judgement but, lol just got to stop and think what I was about to say again...... the old firm fans make heros and villans too easily.

they make players like Larsson and Lovenkrands out as world class players when they would both struggle for a first team place in a top premiership side for example and are somewhat average on the world scene lets be perfectly honest.

if you look at celtic most of their players have played for the clubs that have struggled in the premiership or division 1........

Leicester - Steve Guppy and Neil Lennon
mainly an ex Bolton player - Alan Thompson
Wimbeldon and the likes - John Hartson
Norwich and Blackburn - Chris Sutton (celtics best player)

Where as the First Runners Up turn a player who was scoring goals against Barcelona in the Champions League into a pounds 12 million substitute.

I'll take my Division One players, the League Championship and a Champions League place, thanks.

And like Gers said, this is a no-win for any team, let alone the Old Firm, so it's probably best to move on.

Larsson would walk into most premiership teams!
Average on the world scene???? He was one of the best most consistant strikers at the world cup in my opinion, 3 goals in 4 games. not to mention having over 50 caps.
Guppy never plays for us, he got an england cap the season before he came to us, Lennon held leicester together and has proved his class in the champions league.
Thommo is a journeyman Ill give you.
Hartson was a regular scorer in the premiership, from arsenal to coventry, guaranteed at least 15-20 goals a season
And Sutton was an integral part of the blackburn side that won the premiership in 95 and he isnt our best player.
    What is your point here?

To repeat an old, but never stale, joke ---

Rangers have the three worst strikers in the UK:

    Tore, Andre, and Flo!

Flo, who scored 25 goals last year, that is. It's just that, if you don't do it against Celtic (and you happen to cost 12 million pounds), you become a pariah. He's just been made a scapegoat.

He played well vs Dundee Saturday, holding up the ball, setting up Arveladze for the 2nd goal. He just hit the post with a good shot.

If the fans will have some patience, he can be very good for us still.

No, that's not a bad strike rate at all. However, it's like you said, it's a matter of who he's scoring them against.

I don't know how many came against Celtic, but it couldn't have been many. Also, he had either 3 or 4 in Europe, but I don't think any came in 6 UEFA Cup matches. They all came in the Champions League qualifiers, which didn't help, since they got bumped out before the first group stage.

He may have been made a scapegoat, but I don't think it was without a reason. I know he's not the one who put that price tag on his head, but the fact is that a certain level of performance is expected at that price and he has not fulfilled it.

I honestly think Sutton is celtics best player and Steve Guppy made an awful lot of difference against basil.

Listen Celtic fans, you listening? :D well good Tore Andre Flo needs a good worker around him, someone like Billy Dodds, Flo is in my opinion one of the best players in the SPL and I pray Rangers don't sell him and sadly sell Mols instead after his injury problems. Also Flo needs more confidence like he had in his Old Firm debut.

Man Utd were rumered to be looking at Flo recently but if they were going to buy him then it would be for 4/5 and not the full 12.

GersMan rangers have wisened up to bad signings now they are signing players for a reason now like Mikel Arteta because there was a problem in midfield and he is a class player, and Muscat because there was and still is to an extent a lack of quality defenders.
