    Celtic v. FC Porto

Any predictions for tonights UEFA cup final between Celtic and Porto? I'd say 1-1 after 120 minutes.(Larsson for Celtic and Derlei for Porto)Porto win on PK's. Porto might have a slight advantage because the temperature is expected to rise to 90 degrees.(Seeing as Porto are from Portugal, which is hotter than Scotland.)

I also heard our commentator say something about the fact that these 2 clubs are used to playing in wetter conditions (Porto obviously warmer). So playing on a sub-standard hard pitch, possibly wasn't great.

There's meant to be something like 80,000 Celtic fans there - though obviously not all in the stadium.

How much timewasting will they do?

V.Baia goes down for 3 minutes for nothing. The goal scorer apparently needed 2 minutes to get over scoring. Some dick has just kicked the ball away from a Celtic free-kick.

    Twats twats twats.

I don't care how many apologists say "oh but it happens all over the place" - it's still ************ing cheating.
    Wankers just plain wankers.

If the Celtic player didn't try to kick the goalie, the goalie wouldn't have had the chance to fake it.

    edit: I'm just saying

Porto's behaviour was absolutely disgusting. I'm no Celtic fan but that was pathetic.

UEFA needs to do something about this, but won't.

    3-2

    Porto wins on Silver Goal!

UEFA Cup with a good game for the 3rd yr. in a row. For being the "loser's" cup, it produces some exciting finals.

Good game? If you like watching Portuguese players roll around on the field faking injuries.

I'm not a Celtic fan, I'm simply a soccer fan, and that was one of the most frustrating games I've ever watched. Shame on Porto! No class.

    I don't see why.

The ref could just as well have given the Celtic player a red card for trying to kick the goalie. That the goalie rolls around on the ground like some little girl doesn't take away that a foul was made.

And again, if that Celtic player hadn't tried to kick the goalie, he wouldn't have rolled on the ground like a little girl....well, maybe he would have because he likes to act like he's a 10 year old girlie :D ...but he probably wouldn't have.

This comment takes a few unpleasant incidents grossly out of context. For the most part -- up until the 115th minute or so -- the game was a fine attacking spectacle. Until then, I don't think Porto was playacting much if at all. Celtic was playing a hard-tackling game and on most of the replays I saw any reaction was legit.

I agree that after the second Derlei goal there were some poor time-wasting tactics. But at that point Celtic looked exhausted and were playing down a man -- I find it hard to believe that losing a few extra minutes at the end of the game would have made a meaningful difference. And the majority of the game was well-played and closely contested by two strong, evenly matched sides. Failure to see the game in the proper perspective shows a lack of class too.

No contact was made, silly! Still, Porto are a great side and it's a real shame to see them resorting to these tactics. The dirty French at the Arse did it against Southampton in the FA Cup. It does ruin the game for everyone. English Arse fans I know moaned about it too. We English love lots of attacking football, and all this falling over because someone breathed in their direction is just utter pants. It's seeping right into the English players too, with the international players (Beckham, Owen etc) the worst culprits of all.

I think um_chili is right though. Up to a point. There was contact in the fouls, but really, did there have to so much rolling around and screaming? It makes the Portuguese (by association, as a nation) look like a bunch of poofs.

And shallowgrave, the Celtic team wasn't ************ as you so eloquently put it, but they showed heart and passion against the odds, which is more than can be said for some of the donuts in the Porto team. Jeeez. Grow up.

This cultural generalization is not only self-evidently absurd (who in their right mind actually believes that a nation is represented by eleven-odd men playing for a club football team from its second city?) but also just wrong -- the two players who people are most critical of on this score (Deco and Derlei) are actually Brazilian.

What game were you watching? Derlei was faking injury the whole game! At the end it was to waste time, the entire game it was trying to draw cards. I've never seen someone roll around like that faking pain in the same way every time, then get carried off, then hop up and play. It kept happening, the the ref is at fault for letting it get there. Classless. Stand up and play. Figo pulls the same crap all the time for Real. He spends the whole game on the floor tossing his arms up and complaining to the ref.

I'm just glad the US stuck three in the back of the net right away so we didn't have to deal with those kind of tactics. It is Brazilian too, I know Derlei is from Brazil. Look at Ronaldo against Turkey. Same crap. I hope those Porto players (Derlei, Baia) get punished. FIFA should clean up the game.

And I'm not a sore Celtic fan; I'm not even a Celtic fan at all. I just want to see good, clean, honest play.

First, to quote myself on the same topic on the Portugal boards:

Second, Derlei was fouled more than any other player because Celtic knew he was dangerous and were making a conscious effort to foul him. The English style of play is, even at a high level, very violent and physical; even more so when you have to rely more on rough tactics and less on skill in a lower division or in the Scottish league. Why don't I hear anyone criticizing Celtic for being too violent or aggressive? That could be regarded as dirty play or unsportsmanlike as well, but instead of making that accusation I'll merely repeat that it was a good, evenly matched game and I think a fair result.

YES... Derlei was faking injury in the 1H because he knew Porto would score in injury time at the end of the half...

    Welcome to the Matrix!

Once again the English fans moan about the diving but completely ignore the rugby tackles the Dianbobo ____ and Armstrong were laying down. Armstrong went straight through a Porto player, elbowed him the face, pushed him to the ground, then fell on top of him and rammed his face into the ground. No mention. Diving is cheating and so is that rough tough bullcrap.

Porto were making a meal of the challenges but the bookings were fair.
    The ref called it right.

I dont see why some people are getting upset about the match.
I dont think balde can complain about getting sent off...
