For the record, here are some terms, as reported by the BBC and Soccernet. Loan fee is £1.6 million (A British record for a loan deal), and does include an option for Celtic to buy the player outright at the end of the season for an additional £5.8 million. Terms have been aggreed to between Wolves and Celtic, and all that remains is for Henri to go to Glasgow Thursday and take a medical, and formally sign off on the deal.
No offence to wolves supporters meant like ,but signing a nonentity like this on that kind of money is an absoloute sickener to the fans of this club, lose one of the best in larsson get in a forkin nobody with an attitude, panic buy written all over it.
All of a sudden Dado Prso looks a quality signing... Tell you who it must be really sickening for, maloney and beattie! They must feel very appreciated!
For Wolves, this is just about perfect. Camara scored all of 7 goals last season, and you guys are taking him off our hands for 1 and a half million, plus wages. If Wolves are promoted, and Camara has a good season, he probably comes back, if we don't get promoted, and he has a good season, there's another 6 million coming in off his sale. I don't see him as a 20-goal scorer. He was inconsistent for large stretches of last season. 10 goals is probably a legitimate target for him.
Parkhead Faithful, Great to see you back in here. I completely agree, this is a desperation signing. I don't know what in God's name the board was thinking when they hatched this deal!
I can't remember watching Camara play, but from what I know of him, this deal, on loan terms, and for that sum, makes no sense whatever. First, it appears we are valuing him at 6m plus pounds. You can't tell me we could not have taken a proven scorer for less than that. Geez, Kezman only went for 5m to Chelsea; Postiga left Spurs for 5m; Viduka went to Boro for 4m. I'm not saying those folks would have come to Parkhead, nor would I necessarily want them, esp. Viduka, but I hope you get my point. Second, taking a key player in on a year's loan, especially someone with prior attitude problems is just asking for trouble. There is always going to be the perception from both sides that he's not an equal member of the squad, that this year is just a trial, that the commitment from either side is less than total; and that just won't wash with supporters. Finally, as for talent, I just think we should demand better. Look at what has been spent in the last 18 mos. Pathetic. This is an aging and depleted squad that has done marvelous things, but without substantial influx of quality I see dark days in the months to come. That said, I dearly hope that MON proves this post to be wrong.
Committment from Henri won't be a problem...unless he is not seeing regular first-team action. Camara seems to only care about club football as a means to get him a- noticed by selectors for the Senegal national team, and b- enable him to get African Player of the Year. If Wolves had stayed up, so says Henri, this wouldn't be an issue. He was recently fined 2 weeks wages for missing the start of the preseason and the tour of Norway. When he was asked about it, he didn't understand why the club was punishing him, since they knew that he didn't want to play for a Division 1 team. If he's getting regular first team action, he should be happy and semi-productive. He's nowhere near Henrik Larsson's class, and like I said earlier, I think 10 goals would be a "good" season. If he gets dropped though, heaven help you.
This guy and Martin Keown were probably my two most hated players in the EPL last year. A few months in, with fvck all productivity, he was yapping on about how everybody would be asking "Thierry Who" when he (Camara) hit form - you can be confident, but that's jsut disrespectful. Then when he doesn;t get his game he is the biggest nightmare (attitude-wise) in the league, and once Wolves get relegated (which he didn't help in the slightest), he acts like he never even signed a contract. Unreal.
Welcome to Paradise Henri. I hope you prove to be a fantastic signing. Right. That's the happy clappy stuff done. Congratulations to Wolves. They get £1.5m to loan a player who is on EPL wages, so that's saving them another £1.5m whilst they survive on a 1st Div. income. They also get the player back in a year to keep or to sell on. All this pish about replacing Larsson. For me all that means is a player who can score at least 20+ goals a season. I think Henri C scored 7 goals and had 6 assists for Wolves last season, woo fkn hoo! Maybe this sudden change of behaviour by the Celtic board is not down to finding a replacement for Larsson based on mere football, maybe it's much deeper than that. 5 reasons why Camara is destined to be a success at Paradise 1. Must have the same name Henri is French for Henry, and Henrik is Scandanavian for...Henry! 2. Must instantly perplex the fans In 1987 we said Henrik who? In 2004 it's Henri why? 3. Must be in a huff Henrik joined Celtic when he was in a huff with Feynoord. Will Camara ever come out of his? 4. Must have played in the wrong position Henrik was a winger at Feynoord. Henri was a right winger until 2003 5. Must sign when Urehead is in Uranus Henrik joined at the end of July. It's in the stars that the Celtic board stick their heads up their arse every pre season.
The cost of a player is their transfer fee / loan fee PLUS their wages. To better judge this deal we need to know what his wages are. We can yap away about Kewel, Viduka, etc's transfer fees. But that's only 1/2 of the equation.
I'm sure a learned friend can provide a much more comprehensive reason than me, but here goes. 'Paradise' is not a real place, it only exists in the imagination. Hence the expression 'my idea of Paradise'. Paradise isn't about what it looks like, it's about how it makes you feel. So, Celtic Park can make Celtic fans feel they are in Paradise. They can experience high's there that they can't get anywhere. Non Celtic fans wouldn't get the same buzz. So, next time you pass, don't look for palm trees or waterfalls, buy a bounty and use your imagination. If that doesn't work try LSD. Alternative explanation. Paradise might just have rhymed with another word so made sense to put into a song. Too deep.
If you think thats all the magnificent seven brought to the park then you seem to have him confused with someone a lot less useful. I dont want someone who can bang in 5 goals against aberdeen 4 times a season, i want someone capable of being able to score, set up teammates, work his arse off unslefishly to the final whistle drop back and win balls, turn provider when nothing much is getting through to him etc etc etc, all the things larsson did, i think some people are gonna be shocked at just how much we miss henke this season.
Hawd your horses P_F. All this pish about replacing Larsson. I was referring to the crap in the media yesterday that Camara is/will/might be a replacement for Henrik. Baws he'll not even come close For me all that means is a player who can score at least 20+ goals a season. I'm referring to Henrik the striker, not Henrik the total team player. I've long since given up on the Club signing someone who could come close to replacing the overall contribution - which you've outlined - he made to the team and the Club. I did however think we'd have at least brought in a player who could make a big contribution to filling the Larsson Goal Hole! Camara's stats show that he's a risk. In terms of the forthcoming season without Henrik only time will tell how significant his loss will be. It will be interesting to see how the support react when things aren't going right on the park. We had our bad times even when he was there, but his and MO'N's belief rubbed off on everyone so we just carried on knowing we'd get through it. Without him, then people might get alot more nervous alot more quickly. Here's hoping we get off to a flyer.
For the record, as far as Henri's goal-scoring went, he was scorless in the first 10 Premiership matches last year, hit 1 in the 11th match (In October), and then was scorless until March 27, when he went on a mini-run hitting 6 goals in 7 matches. He was then held scoreless in the last 2 matches of the season. So, really, his performance was all in a span of about a month. 7 matches got him Wolves' Player of the Year award (in a farce, some say), and the idea that he was too good for the First Division.
Why is it that the Premiership rejects always tend to do well with Celtic, whilst players who were successful in the Premiership suck balls at Ibrox?
Flo did. I would still give Ball more of a chance. Good player. If we sell Moore i would use the money to keep him. Anymore? What about these preimership rejects at Celtic. Who are they?
