Keep that in mind the next time someone claims Nancy gives a shit about the Supporters Shield. To be clear, I don’t think he should. But if he did, he’d be subbing in first team players to push for 3 points.
I have no idea. I’ve never gotten one like this before. The equipment manager was awesome though. He saw my yellow and saught me out with it. Took me a second to realize what he gave me because all I saw was Montreal’s logo for a second. He then winked at me. 10/10 great guy.
If you look around the league tonight, tons of academy kids are getting playing time. Nature of an English week before the rivalry games
Barely squeezing out a point against the worst team in the east and then playing the best team in the conference a few days later is a bit worrisome. I’m sure Gazdag will find his form eventually, but so far has been a disappointment. AZ shows a ton of upside and gets into some great positions, but tends to squander those opportunities with a terrible pass or shot. JRR does next to nothing for the entirety of the game, then pounces on a mistake and scores. Dude seems to be lost or disinterested for huge stretches of his minutes.
True stuff. AZ always looks like hes about to.do.something spectacular but never actually does. JRR is a good poacher but not much else. Its a valuable skill to be sure but can't carry an offense. And what can you day about Gazdag? One wants to be patient and give him.time but it's not like hes spent the last 6 months on his couch.
At this point it kind of feels like if Amundsen is on the field, go ahead and spot the opponent at least one goal, and if they have any level of competence, multiple goals. He has been…less than stellar this season imo.
JRR had the great fortune of playing along a league MVP candidate who elevated his game by mentoring him and pushing him to play at a higher level, but also by requiring opposing defenses to focus so heavily on that one player that it opened up opportunities for him to score and in general gave him more time to execute. Now that Cucho is gone, whatever delusions of grandeur JRR might have had should have evaporated. He's extremely fortunate to be in a situation where he's getting so much playing time. I don't think his luck in that regard will hold all season. At least I hope not. On the glass half full side, he's still just 22. He can continue to develop. It's awfully difficult to see him ever being a true MLS starting quality striker. But at his salary, I don't hate him coming in off the bench or occasionally starting alongside a real no. 9.
Agreed. His first touch is horrible and needs to be fed a ball on a platter to score. Option off the bench late should be his job.
It was just Herrera & Camacho on the injury report. But you are most certainly correct. My bitching about him not getting subbed on was totally off base, then. As were my initial thoughts on Gazdag. Early days still, but man, other than some decent runs and tidy control & passing, he does not threaten the D much. He seems like a Chambost type, better as a mid than an attacker.
And yet he's scored 63 goals in MLS. Finished 2nd for the Golden Boot last year, 8th in '23 and 7th in '22. He's was a proven scorer in Philly. I don't see why we'd expect anything different in Columbus.
Negative Nancy! Clearly he was looking forward to FCC, also worried about Zawadski's card accumulations. I agree with others, JRR is a 1/10 player. 9 out of 10 miscues, 1 out of 10 amazing plays/shots/passes....so frustrating to watch. AZ is useless. He puts his head down and dribbles into people, weak on defense, and launches hail Mary shots. Not a great team player, he is in his own world. I have faith that Gazdag will merge into the chemistry of our team, and become a solid and dependable player going forward. Let's give him a few more matches before he is written off.... On the positive side, Chambost has developed into a very dependable midfielder, starting attacks, and getting back well and playing good D. He is all over the pitch and usually doing something good. With Zawadski and Rossi rested, we should be fine against FCC.
I believe Nancy about not running as much. It seemed to me that we had some pretty heavy legs out there, which makes sense with the Philly game a few days ago on the road and then traveling back home to go right to Montreal. And that Montreal had made a few subs before Nancy did. It felt like no one told Montreal that they were supposed to be easily beaten for the three points. Their big number 9, Owusu, seemed like a handful, making me wish that JRR was as strong as he was up top. However, Owusu seemed to slow down a bit in the second half. Petrasso (13 for Montreal) was also giving us some fits with his speed and runs in a way I haven't seen someone challenge Farsi and co in a bit. I think this was probably Gazdag's second-worst game with us. Unfortunately, it came right after what I think was his worst one. Not a great showing the last few games. He should probably check his cleats too, it seems like he's slipped now a few times while the ball was heading his way in a dangerous spot. Maybe it's because he doesn't really do anything to help build out the attack. He did pop into some dangerous spots in the box and has made some quick one-touch passes, but since those haven't been going in, he can be pretty forgettable. I do think he will fit in better once we get another striker up top. From the subs that came on during our "line change", I was impressed with Sejdic and Taha the most. Brown looked decent, if not as impactful (see that pun?). Oh and Sejdic is my new favorite player. I was taking a photo of Rossi on the bench right as he turned around. I clapped and did a 'let's go boys' and he winked at me. Swoon.
