This is what OL wrote me, about 30 minutes after I wrote him, on Dec. 19...

Ana never wrote me, so I sent her an email on Sunday but she still hasn't written back. But I imagine maybe they're out of the office until Monday. Hopefully I'll hear something from her by then. But maybe more people should write her too, her email is afallas@houstondynamo.com. Or write Oliver himself.

My husband, some friends and I are planning to go to Cancun also, we want to arrive on Tuesday the 3rd and leave Saturday the 7th. We were wondering what hotel most everyone is staying at, are there any special deals? And where do we get the game tickets? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

some of us are staying here

    Margaritas Cancun

It's walking distance to the stadium. it's cheaper than the beach hotels and there's a shuttle to the beach.

Margaritas looks cool. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn Express, which seemed cheap, though not as cheap as Margaritas ($70/room). It's not on the beach but everything I read about it says they have a great free breakfast. I have no idea where it is from the stadium but it doesn't look too far away.

... I still haven't heard anything from the Dynamo f.o. but I guess there's still plenty of time.

And on Glenn's show Mannie said EB is trying to get together a trip too, so there might be a lot of people needing tickets.

Yeah I heard a rep from EB mentioning something like that. So hopefully the traveling fans get hooked up with good seats together.

If you have an expired passport you have 15 years from the date of issue and all you have to do is send it in with $75 and two photos and you get a new one. Mine was 14 1/2 years old, so I barely made it. In the East Bernard post office there's a real nice lady that can take your picture, no waiting, then help you with the paper work. She said they get a lot of people from Sugar Land and Houston because it's so much easier here. I sent mine off the day before New Year's and got my new one Saturday. Not bad.

I could be way wrong here, and I'm sure someone will point it out if I am, but it seems to me in the past, Mexican stadium personnel have been pretty good about lumping all the MLS traveling supporters together and providing good security. I think it's in their best interest as well as ours for all the Houston supporters to be put together.

no you're 100% right. trust me, the last thing the FMF wants is for a "gringo" to be seriously hurt in a stadium. heck they're even really sensitive on mexican on mexican incidents. their stance is to cut-off any caca before it even begins. that's inside the stadium, outside its everyone for themselves, run for your lives. i keed, i keed. sort of. :D

    my take:

#1 Atlante is a family/docile crowd environment. no different than being at a Dynamo game during a hispanic heavy crowd (take the Blanco game, for example). remember, brown doesn't necessarily mean "danger, danger will robinson". most peeps in Q.R. (1 of the 2 states in the Yucatan peninsula) are very friendly as compared to say a large metropolitan area like NYC, LA or Mexico City where the dynamic is different.

#2 buuuuuuuuut, if you're looking for trouble you can find it. i don't think anyone of yous is stupid, so there's not need to go further on this topic. i'm sure you can figure out what words/symbolism/issues/hand gestures are offensive to Mexicans.

#3 don't expect Atlante to be as sharp with security as compared to the Pachuca's FO. teams like Pachuca, Chivas, America, Pumas, Cruz Azul, etc. are more experienced in dealing with travelling away support due to their participation in Libertadores/SudAmericana. Cancun is a lot newer to this.

#4 if you do have coordinated security, pick someone in the group to communicate with the po-po in charge. most likely he'll come up first and ask you guys if there's anybody he can communicate for instructions.

#5 stop bothering the Dynamo FO for info on tickets. get on the horn/e-mail with someone in the Atlante FO. you're not the Dynamo's responsibilty down there, you are on your own.

#6 take extra Dynamo t-shirts or pins. you'll be surprised by the amount of local 'locos' esp kids who will want to trade their stuff for some of your swag.

#7 have fun, be cool. its an experience you'll never forget.

btw, its not to late to pool your money and buy *rey* a plane ticket to Cancun to serve as guide and chaperone. what's $298/20 people. because worse case scenario, its been proven that i can take a punch. jajajajajajajajajajaja.

this sounds like a challenge... how much alcohol must be consumed before you wake up at US immigration and realize you have no idea how you got there or what happened in Mexico?

Yea, I keep hearing that too, from here and from Mexico, but I wonder if they might be a little more sensitive after their last game here. Of course, that would also depend on how the game goes in February...

I imagine they have a lot of away fans that plan their Cancun vacations to coincide with their team's game against Atlante. On the other hand, it's a long ways from other Mexican cities. I do remember there were a lot of Ticos in purple there when the Saprissa played Atlante.

Yea, I wouldn't expect them to arrange tickets or anything, but I thought they might open a door for us, at least help us figure out who to talk to. At least get the word to them that a big group is coming...

Sure, like we need to travel with our own piñata.
