Who would everybody like to see next year at the 2014 version of the Carolina Challenge Cup? My three would be Seattle Sounders, Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls. If that would happen I would be very happy.

Doubtful that Seattle will take part in this. Sig Schmidi had strong words about the tournament they played in in pre-season in Arizona (organized by FC Tuscon) not being as good a preparation for the season as their previous trips abroad to Argentina and Spain were. They want to play higher level competition.

It's likely they'll go abroad again in 2014.

I always enjoy seeing TFC and DCU because they bring always bring a good crowd down for the week. Plus with DCU we get the Coffee Pot Cup.

Seattle would be great, especially with the player link in Alonso, Neagle and Caskey all getting to come back to the Battery. Add in potential WC players like Dempsey (who went to school here in SC) and Eddie Johnson, it could could have an attraction for many casual and fringe fans. Would love to see them take part.

Other teams I'd like to see would be Portland, New York or Philadelphia.

UNION. Hell, I might even come down for that.

Oh, yeah, I am officially moved to Union-land, Philadelphia.

And yes,. Seattle owes Battery big time.

Enjoy Philly! I would think their would be a few guys that would come down to watch the Union at Blackbaud.

If you ever do get back down this way let us know!

by the way over on Facebook, the Battery are wondering which three teams you would like to see in the CCC. Seattle seems to be an overwhelming choice of the 60 plus responses

No surprise there, really. Although, in reality, will it happen?

I don't know anything for sure but the rumor mill seems to be picking up momentum for Seattle.

really nothing other than circumstantial evidence to support it though.

    1. relationship has been good between the two clubs since Seattle moved up to MLS. (was good during USL-1 time as well)
    2. number of players that have moved between the two. (Alsonso, Neagle, Caskey to Seattle) (Sanyang, Peverley to charleston) not to mention Muller playing with the reserves and Cuevas and Ellison getting trials earlier this season)
    3. rumor that when Ozzie was sold to Seattle it came with an agreement they would play a friendly at a later date (along with a sell-on clause)

of course the poster above noted the Sigi wasn't a big fan of the prep he got in Arizona last season.
so until the teams are finalized the best we can do is keep looking for clues or things that would preclude a team from coming down (CCL, other announcements, conflicting dates)

email today from the front office to season ticket holders said they have confirmed all three CCC teams.

I imagine they begin to announce them over the next couple weeks. I imagine they will begin to announce them one at a time to get the most bang out of there buck so to speak.

nothing official yet. I think most clubs will want to wait until post season to announce.

guess I should start saving my pennies to fill up the damn coffee pot again. Just make sure you tell Olsen to make sure the match is on a weekend this year!

Sweet. I know they're pretty terrible right now but our game against D.C. is always my favorite of the tournament. I saw Andrew Miller's tweet about a story on it coming out tomorrow too.

Guess I better take my lazy ass up to the engravers and have the coffee Pot updated from two years ago

I was holding out hope we'd meet in the USOC Final - which almost happened.

I will have @Gittnbizzee talk to Benny.

edit: CorbinSC - great Deuceface avatar :)

I wasn't really counting on the Deuce being here anyway. With WC 2014 coming up, the USMNT usually has friendlies and camps leading up to the tournament. In 2010, they had friendlies in Jan, Feb and March, then a bunch in late May-early June right before the tourney. Whoever shows up, it'll still be great to break in the 2014 season with some Ball At The 'Baud..........

I wouldn't count him out either. Other stories are talking that it may be best for Deuce not to go on loan as he has been playing non stop for a couple years now. Also there are no FIFA International dates in Feb and I imagine Sigi (or who ever is in charge there) will want his full squad them more so than any other time as they start up the 2014 MLS season the week afterwords.

they typically don't turn anyone away. i know most have been open in the past. The locations in the past have been Patriots point, Charleston Southern and Blackbaud stadium. Some of the teams sometimes set up a scrimage with CofC or Coastal Carolina during the week as well as the three CCC matches.

We typically dont hear much publicly until a week or so before but I would keep my eye on www.chssoccer.net . Dan, who runs that site, does a very good job with that type of information.

    How long are you staying?
