Hopefully they don't overreact to the storms as much as during the Club WC. Safetyism has gone way too far in sports. On the recording strategy, I was impressed to find out that the 'cable-like' streaming option I use (SlingTV) is smart enough to figure out that it should automatically tack on 15 minutes to the recording of live sporting events. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to begin the recording earlier than the scheduled kick off time like there was when I had a cable/DVR set up, but that's less important.
Sure, if there's a raging storm above the stadium, you have to pause things. But some of the delays were VERY long for storms that passed relatively quickly. And, correct me I'm wrong, but I seem to recall some instances of pausing games where a storm never hit. It was just nearby. The decision makers need to exercise some common sense this time.
That's the same as the cloud DVR I'm using from my cable provider (ever since they stopped supporting Tivo/cablecard), at least for the basic cloud DVR tier I'm paying for. On a related note I've been inches from cutting the cord, largely due to cost. Wanting to trial YouTube TV. I know this isn't the best thread perhaps to ask this, but does anyone know if YTTV's DVR function is smart or flexible about these things, e.g. starting 15mins early, ending 30/60/90mins late?
Aren't a lot of the stadia roofed? And if so, that makes the storm delays largely moot in those cases? (I'm not talking hurricanes of course, which hopefully won't materialize!!)
True. By my count, there are only 5 locations where thunderstorms are common. NY, Boston, Philly, KC, Toronto. Excluding Mexico because I'm not an expert on their weather patterns but assume its unlikely in at least 2 of the 3 venues because of altitude. By contrast, 8 of the 12 venues in the Club WC are prone to thunderstorms.
Apparently you're not familiar with how lightning from thunderstorms works. As a 50-year resident of Florida I'm quite familiar with them and lightning can and does strike up to 10-15 miles away from the parent storm, so just because it isn't raining on you doesn't mean you can't be struck by lightning. Perhaps you've heard the phrase "a bolt from the blue" - it's not just an expression. People are killed every summer (and in other times of year when storms hit) around here in such situations. So you can't go by whether you see pouring rain at the stadium on your TV screen. This is why venues are equipped with lightning detection equipment and have a protocol regarding a thunderstorm within (x) miles of the stadium and why they have to wait a certain period of time from the last lightning strike because nobody knows which is the last one. Storms can move quickly (if they're associated with fronts), but the ones in the summer are usually "pop-up" thunderstorms that develop in situ and move slowly, so you're waiting for dissipation rather than for them to clear out. Sorry if this causes some messes up your recording of the game but as I said lightning is no joke.
I was thinking they had a roof? Ok, maybe not. Geez, if one city needed a retractable roof stadium it would be Miami. Okay, 6. Still much less than Club WC.
Sure, there is some risk. Not denying that. Its more the inconsistency and illogical use of resources I was highlighting. This is similar to the rationale for putting a screen around the entire foul territory in MLB stadiums because 1 child a few years ago got injured out of millions and millions that attend MLB games. Meanwhile, minimal effort is made to curb far more risky things in life, like reckless driving.
Well that would be a great argument if stadium operators were responsible for the driving habits of their patrons. Since they aren't, there aren't any resources expended for one at the expense of the other.
I’m trying to access Celtic vs Motherwell live right now and keep getting error having trouble playing video.
Oh damn I have CBS SN and didn’t even think to watch there. Just checked again no highlights or match replay in the app yet either. How do you ******** up the biggest match of the day?!?!?!? Maybe politics was involved I don’t want to say but Iykyk!!!!
Invoking Hanlon's razor here: Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity (or in this case, incompetence).
