Does anyone have Brasilerao rights in the US? Pretty sure TyC still has Argentina.

Argentina has one more year on Paramount Plus, The Brazilian League is a mystery right now.

About international rights for the Brasileirão:

Between 2020 and 2023 clubs had a contract with a company called 1190. That expired and clubs failed to do anything to renew or get another partner. Companies reached out to them but they failed to answer in time, dragged their feet, etc. (In part because the domestic contracts took long too.) Now they are looking at international deals again.

Decided not to renew with previous rights-holders, so no international broadcast so far (anywhere in the world).

At this point there are two groups of clubs in Brazil and they went in different directions for TV rights. One of them (LFU) did in fact end up renewing with 1190 but went back on the deal at the last minute. This is because a Swiss company, InFront, came to them with a last minute offer.

The other group, Libra, has two offers on the table, one from InFront, one from a British company called SportFive but they haven't moved ahead with either one yet.

Eight minute video, I'll add if I hear more details as I finish watching.

Also, Fanatiz is back to "pending confirmation" in its description of the Brasileirao.

EDIT: The offer on the table was 8.5 million dollars, which LFU rejected for being too low. Libra also didn't like it because it would be split equally and they see that as a problem cause they are the bigger group and don't want to give LFU that leverage.

Of course, Rodrigo Capelo (the journalist who is sharing all this info) pointed out that the alternative is what we have now, no options for overseas broadcasts until they finally do accept one of offers that has been made.

That's an impressive level of incompetence.

Perhaps, but if you're Brazilian it's not at all a surprising one. It's neat to hear the info (Rodrigo Capelo is a great journalist, he covers specifically the financial side of soccer in Brazil) but the mess doesn't surprise me.

I just got an email from Fanatiz that they'll be showing almost all games of the Brasileirao (all except Bragantino and Corinthians home games -- granted the latter is a big exception) with ambient sound, but no commentary.

Bragantino has been added. So Fanatiz is now showing all games other than Corinthians home games.

Will P+ be offering a multicast so we can watch UEL and UECL semis simultaneously?

Not sure what you mean, but their "Golazo" show had whip-around coverage of all four EL and Conf league matches.

I posted that not realizing they were going to play all four simultaneously. I had assumed one game per tournament at a time spread over two timeslots like the earlier rounds.

This week is odd with Club Brugge vs Fiorentina in the early slot on Wednesday, before the Real Madrid vs Munich match, and then the other 3 all in the later slot on Thursday.

Yeah, 9 May is a holiday in Belgium, although I am not sure how big the holiday is and whether it played a role in moving the match to Wednesday. Ascension Day, which is linked to Easter.

News that Sony/Apollo may buy Paramount/CBS.

Makes me wonder if this will lead to more or less streaming fragmentation.

Apparently Sony wants the traditional movie studio/library more than a streaming service.

But I also heard that maybe Comcast would but P+ and merge it with Peacock.

And I also wonder what happens to all the UEFA footy rights which are huge for us Yanks.

Is it possible things could end up easier and cheaper for those of us who have P+, Peacock, etc mainly for watching the beautiful game? I won’t hold my breath!

A Peacock/Paramount+ merger might be nice for me.

I think we need to be careful with these mergers. They'll definitely play the "lower prices if you bundle" card at first, but fewer options will almost certainly lead to higher prices.

I think I'm paying $104 for one year of Peacock plus $35 for 14 months of Paramount+...so let's call it $139 for a year of two apps or $70 per year per app

Let's see what happens if there's mergers and mergers.
