Wow, pretty interesting last-minute signings going on around the league, especially for us. Given how often the Rapids' sub in players, at least last year, I'm wondering whether we've suddenly decided to go with the amazing new "4-4-5" lineup I've heard about as our secret weapon... Rapids' Possible Strykers: Zizi, Spencer, Castellanos, Peguero, Kingsley... Cheers, BilFish ===============
So we got deeper and younger at Striker... can't say I'm pissed off with Counce and Hanki on this one... I'll still give Carrieri a cheer if he makes it back to MLS and darkens the doors of Invesco or the new Radioactive place in Commerce City...
Okay, for the last time, I'll spell it out: The Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Commerce City was a CHEMICAL warfare manufacturing facility. You're thinking of Rocky Flats NUCLEAR (radioactive) warhead detonator manufacturing facility where the new Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse team stadium is going up. Humpph.
The official media release: =================== Rapids Sign Former Honduran First Division Striker David Castellanos The University of Connecticut Standout Signs Multi-Year Deal With Rapids, MLS DENVER, CO (03-30-04)- The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of former Honduran First Division striker and University of Connecticut standout David Castellanos, to a multi-year deal with Major League Soccer. Per MLS policy, details of the contract were not made public. Castellanos, who will occupy a full roster spot, arrived in Colorado after playing one season with Motagua of the Honduran First Division. He played two years at the UConn before signing with Motagua prior to the 2002/03 season. He helped the Huskies win their first National Championship in 2000 by tallying an assist in the College Cup Final as UConn knocked off Creighton 2-0. Castellanos also finished the 2004 preseason as the Rapids' leading scorer with four goals in ten games. The 6-1 forward has represented the United States playing for the Under-20 and Under-17 national teams. The Rapids will kick off the 2004 Major League Soccer regular season on Saturday, April 3rd when they visit the Dallas Burn at the Cotton Bowl at 6:30 p.m. (MT) # 18 David Castellanos Position: Forward Height: 6-1 Weight: 180 Date of birth: February 26, 1980 Place of birth: Philadelphia, PA Hometown: Philadelphia, PA Citizenship: USA National team experience: United States Under-20, Under-17 College: University of Connecticut, Mercer Community College Acquired: Signed on March, 2003 Previous clubs: Motagua (Hon) (2002) ============================== I had no idea he had played in Honduras, much less with any of the youth national teams.
No big deal, but Kingsley as a striker is a bit of a stretch (unless Mooch is the coach and we are playnig with 7 defenders and a lone midfielder up top). Still, while I think CC got the shaft undeservedly, this looks like a pretty good group of forwards. It sure would have been better if they at least traded Chris.
Excuse me, THE NEW TOXIC/FREE LAND PLACE, obviously you got what I was getting at... Thanks for the correction, either way its a f***ing joke, whatever happened to investing in a community, instead of getting corporate welfare? If we're going to give the land away, why not low-income housing? Multiple other uses that could have been designed to give back to the community instead of lining Stan's pockets (insert lame Wal-Mart add about Compton area store)... I'm generally disgusted with this kind of sh!t, not to mention it's a complete a$$ of a location... If we're so G--Damned free-market, let the peckers move the team, only a matter of time before someone satiates the market need right??? totally hypocritical business practice...
Don't climb up too high on your soap box. Sometimes a brownfield, what I assume the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, shouldn't be used for housing, etc. In addition, cities need sales tax revenue, something a large retail, sports complex will bring but housing won't. The process for selecting a stadium site is so much more complex that you are thinking. If Commerce City doesn't "give" this land to KSE, the chances of having a nice stadium development go through the floor.
This is the most relevant old thread I could find. I asked here unanswered about whether this was a discovery selection. If not, then what's the mechanism of the signing? Thanks.
