Results of the 5th and 6th weeks were not too good:

Oct 5 - San Omero Palmense 2 Pro Castel di Sangro 1
Oct 9 - Pro Castel di Sangro 0 Canistro 0

And the team is tied for 5th now. Trying to find out what the promotion scheme is for this division:

    Standings:
    Capistrello 16
    Canistro 13
    Luco 13
    Atletico Nepezzano 12
    Pro Castel di Sangro 11
    San Omero Palmense 11
    Polisportiva Mosciano 10
    San Nicolo' 10
    Rosetana 8
    Castelnuovo Vomano 7
    Paterno 7
    Tagliacozzo 7
    Colonnellese 6
    Cologna Spiaggia 5
    Martinsicuro 5
    Pontevomano 5
    Tortoreto 3
    San Nicola Sulmona 1

I found some formulas for promotion/relegation in one of the links I'd posted above. Unfortunately, at these levels, it's never clear how many clubs will be "relegated" down through the ranks from the levels above for reasons other than on-field performance. So there are many different scenarios based on the total number of teams coming up/down from other divisions. Long story short, the only way to guarantee promotion to Eccellenza is to win the group although the 2nd through 5th teams in each group will still have a playoff for the "right to apply" for admission to Eccellenza for next season.

Man, you are tirelessly getting information. I love it. How far down is Promozione? We have Serie A, B, C1, C2, D, Eccellenza and Promozione?

Yep, you got it right. They're in the Italian 7th Division. :D Still awaiting this week's press release containing last weekend's results.

Result from Week 7 (played Oct 16):

Pontevomano 1 Pro Castel di Sangro 1

Not a great result given Pontevomano's lowly place in the table, but among teams above and just below, only Canistro and San Nicolo got wins. So now Castel di Sangro is tied for 6th place, just out of the playoff zone.

I never asked you: why do you follow Castel di Sangro? You are doing a great job, but I am just curious as to your motivation...is your family from there?

Why do I follow them? Because of the book, I suppose. But I wouldn't say I "follow" them so much as I just like spending my life looking up obscure information about lower-division Italian soccer that somebody else in the world might be interested in knowing. :D

    Result from Week 8

Pro Castel di Sangro 3 Tortoreto 1

Tortoreto only has 3 pts on the season, so CdS OUGHT to have won this one, and they did. Luco and Canistro played to a 0-0; Nepezzano drew also; all the other teams ahead won. CdS is now tied for 4th place:

    Capistrello 19 pts
    Canistro 17 pts
    S.Nicolo 16 pts
Pro Castel di Sangro 15 pts
    Luco 15 pts
    Nepezzano 14 pts

I love it! A life well spent. We are back in fourth place, so let's see if they can keep winning and make it back to at least C2.

A really good 1-0 away win at Rosetana for Castel di Sangro last weekend, and they're now in a 3-way tie for 3rd place in the table, not to mention only two points out of first place:

    Capistrello 20 pts
    San Nicolo' 19 pts
    Castel di Sangro 18 pts
    Canistro 18 pts
    Luco 18 pts

It would be nice if we could view a roster and scoring leaders for that level. Hopefully, upon promotion, info will be more plentiful.

I agree, it'd be nice to have a roster. That's why I tried posting some names although (aside from Liberatore) they were only from the disciplinary rolls. Leave it to Italy's leagues to post yellow card stats but not goalscoring.

Pro Castel di Sangro won against last Sunday, 3-1 over Capistrello, to stay in first place by 2 points ahead of San Nicolo' and extending their lead to 4 points over 3rd-place team Luco.

    Hi there CDS-fans!

I started last week reading the book of Joe McGinniss....for the 3th time!!!!!!
I'm sooooooo into this incredible story and I started to search everything about the book, McGinniss, team, players, staff, fans, the town,....
I must say I'm very pleased to read that there are still some ( a lot of) fans , because of the book, that follow everything about the team! GREAT !!
I found pictures of the route McGinniss followed, starting from the station in Sulmona to the Best Western, the coradetti, market place of Castel di Sangro and pictures of the players, jaconi,... So if anyone know how to put them somewhere you can see them too let me know!
I also found videocaptures of some of the goals they scored in that season.
    Hope to share all that!
I actually planning a trip to the Abruzzo ....Maybe like a lot of fans outside Italy! Hope to get there sometime :) Especially in the Via Peschiera 10 ! :)

Hope to keep contact with all the CDS fans!!

    In boca al lupo

Anyone know the promotion regs for their current division? Top team? Top two? Playoffs?

Not to be rude, guys, but please read the thread! I posted about Jaconi going to Ivrea way back in July. I know I posted the promotion rules somewhere in here, too. I think only the top team is guaranteed promotion to Eccellenza although it's possible for more to go up, depending on teams above them folding or getting relegated for financial reasons.

Sorry about that. I normally don't do that.

BTW, CdS lost last weekend but remains in first place, one point ahead of San Nicolo'.
