Fox and Hound Cary is opening at 9:30am on Thursday for the USA v. Ghana and Italy v. Czech Republic matches. They have 5 sets of side-by-side projection televisions so you can follow both matches at the same time. Brunch will be served. http://trisoccerfan.com/index.php?itemid=201
Woody's has excellent wings and free WiFi. They are one of the few pubs in the area that you can walk in the door and be assured that they'll have soccer on at least one of their big screen TVs. They also have Setanta so you can watch the games in German if you like My complaints about Woody's are that I always come home smelling like an ash tray and the damn jukebox is so loud that even if you turn the TVs up to the max volume you still can hear a thing for the classic rock blaring from the jukebox. They certainly have plenty of TVs to watch the simultaneous matches but I doubt they are going to be open early for the 9am and 10am matches. Any idea if they are doing anything special for the World Cup?

bump - I will be in Durham/Cary next week. Obviously need a bar that has GolTV and/or Telefutura so that I can watch the first game of US vs Argentina. Are people congregating at Fox and Hound or Hiberian's or somewhere else to watch? Do these places have GolTV? It is a Thursday night so hopefully that doesn't make it harder to find a place to watch it. Anybody?
The Fox and the Hound unfortunately has closed in Cary. Hibernian does not get GolTV. Your best bet may in fact be the old Soccer Dome America (now XL Soccer World). http://www.xlsoccerworld.com Also, stay tuned to www.trisoccerfan.com this week. I'll probably organize some kind of gathering for the matches and that website is where it will be publicized.
Was hoping you would post - didn't realize it would be that fast. Thanks. I will continue to check out the trisoccer page as well.
Anyone watching the US Mexico game at a bar? If anyone cares to join me, I'll be heading to El Rodeo in Durham (the one near the super Target) in about 10 minutes.
bump - do we know of any bars that actually get GolTV, or should I just start calling that soccer world and other bars? Someone told me there is a big sports bar called Champs at Southpoint - but that sounds like a big place? Would rather a more classic bar atmosphere - but as long as I can see the game, I won't care.
Sorry, I've been busy as hell. I still plan to write an article on my site later tonight with lots of detail. But here's the short version: XL Soccer World (formerly Soccer Dome America) will definitely be showing the games Woody's in Cary definitely has GolTV and has always put on soccer for me when I go in there Champps is a nice sports bar but I doubt seriously they get GolTV (I know for a fact they don't have Fox Soccer Channel) Remember that the games are also being shown on Univision and Telefutura, which are channel 2 and 20 on Time Warner Cable in Raleigh-Durham. Also, Univision is available over the air on channel 40 UHF. Finally, you can watch the games LIVE on Univision.com streaming over the web.
you could always try downtown raleigh, since you'll be driving anyway. I watched a few world cup games at woodys (downtown, off of blount st. near moore square), napper tandys, and flying saucer (GREAT BEER SELECTION). all are smaller bars w/out the sports bar wal-mart feel it sounds liek you're trying to avoid.
Here's my article, although I posted most of the info above: http://trisoccerfan.com/nucleus?itemid=796
Okay, so sounds like I am shooting for Woody's or IP3 (based on comments on the trisoccer.com page) - is there any others heading toward one or the other?
Tomorrow I'm on the road on business but will probably hit one of those two for the other two US games. Will try to post here or at TSF website.
Went to Woody's to watch the game - great place. One of the guys asked me if I wanted it on the HUGE, HUGE TV behind the pool table so it was great. Couldn't hear the sound, but didn't care. Couple of people watching it as well it seemed. I really liked it there. As for the result....well, that is a different story.
I know this is late notice, but in case anyone is interested...U20s v. Poland watching today in Cary near SAS Soccer Park http://trisoccerfan.com/nucleus/index.php?itemid=798 Also, we'll be doing an event Friday to watch the U20s v. Brazil and RailHawks v. Rhinos.
Hibernian Pub in Cary has significantly committed to becoming a serious soccer bar in the Triangle. They've signed a partnership with the Carolina RailHawks and added Setanta Sports, GolTV, and Fox Soccer Channel to their channel lineup. They will be opening early (10am) all year long during the EPL Season starting with Sunday's FA Community Shield match between Chelsea and Manchester United. More details on Sunday's event: http://trisoccerfan.com/index.php?itemid=839 Hibernian is a great pub, with great food and atmosphere. This could very well be the "soccer pub" we've been looking for in the Triangle. Let's all try to get out and support Hibernian for making the investment in upgrading their soccer offering.
Hibernian seems ideal, but in case some of you Durhamites need to stay closer to home. Bull McCabes on Main St. also has Setanta, FSC, and Goltv and will be opening at 10 am on Saturdays.
