Ricardo Carvalho is waiting for news. The player knows that Real Madrid wants to sign him, but he also understands that Porto wants to get the best deal possible for his transfer.

M: How are you dealing with the possibility of signing for Real Madrid?
C: Calm. I'm very calm and the only thing left for me is to wait. I've already said what I want and now everything depends on my agents and the clubs.

    M: Aren't you impatient?
C: No, really not. The only thing I want is for the matter to be resolved in the best way possible for all parties involved.

M: And this way would be...?
C: Look, I would like very much to go to Real Madrid and I have already said it. To go to the best club in the world is something that would make any football player happy. It makes me tremendously excited, but I belong to Porto, a very big club which is the current champion of Europe, and I understand that they don't want to lose their players.

M: Do you understand the posture of Pinto da Costa, who is still saying that he won't sell Carvalho?
C: Of course. I understand it and I respect it. Porto is a big club, it's not a little club and the president always looks for the best thing for the club. It's normal, he's looking out for the best interests of the club and I have to look out for the best interests of my career.

    M: Are you optimistic?
C: We'll say that I'm confident that everything will be resolved in the best manner possible for all parties involved.

M: Do you know how the negotiations are going?
C: I know that there are contacts, but not much more.

M: They're talking about 20 to 30 million euros. What do you think of that?
C: That it's a lot of money, it's true, but it's normal for Porto to ask for fees of that kind for its players. It's a club that has won everything in the last two years. If someone had bought Carvalho a year ago, for example, the price would surely not be so high as it is at the moment.

M: A lot of players are leaving Porto. Does that worry you or does it give you hope that you'll be able to go to Madrid?
C: Neither. This happens all the time in Porto and the club is always on top, it has always been a big club. Leave whoever leaves, even if it's Carvalho, the club will continue fighting to win everything.

M: Is this the opportunity of your life?
C: I can only say that Madrid is a great club. I can't say more at this time. I'm confident that there will be a solution that is good for all parties and that I will be able to go, but I'm 25 and there's time ahead. Plus, I'm now in a great club - as Porto is.

M: What is the significance of Madrid?
C: Every player wants the best for his career and Madrid is the greatest club there is.

M: Can you imagine a defense of Carvalho-Samuel?
C: If I'm imagining... I think it would be a great defense, compact, although the most important thing is that the team functions. It would be a good defense, surely.

M: Your friend Costinha says you're the best centerback in Europe.
C: Of course, because he's my friend. I also think he's one of the best in the world in his position. All of us that have played in Porto this past year have shown that we can compete with the best in the world.

M: What are the best qualities of Ricardo Carvalho?
C: I don't know...I think that I'm fast, that I can bring the ball out well, play well in the air, and, above all, I think that I'm always very focused during the games.

M: So will we see you in Madrid or not?
C: I can't say anything more. The best has to be found for Porto, for me, for my family... The only thing left for me is to wait.

M: Have you spoken directly to Pinto da Costa?
C: Yes, but I can't reveal what was said. He wants the best for Porto and he has to say that he won't sell Carvalho; I want the best for me and I told him what that is.

He seems pretty optimistic. I for one hope this transfer goes through, because according to another article that would mean another rumored transfer wouldn't. ;)
