Carrieri will never play for the national team. The reason being that he is not that good at soccer.

He has the ability to score regularly. If he continues to play as he has been for Colorado, I have no doubt he will get a look.

After mispronouncing it several times on the stadium PA, I was told it's CARE-e-AIR-e.

If I were one of his dead Italian ancestors, I'd probably come back and kick him in the jimmy for butchering his name like that.

Don't you mean "kick him in the Referee?" or maybe "the Ruiz?".....(oh, sorry...that would be on the back side of the anatomy.)

Not sure who he was outside of the soccer field, but he managed to score own goal on it.

That was Andres Escobar, and he was shot to death , some speculators say that he was killed by some unhappy gamblers who lost money on the 94 World Cup game between Columbia and the US.

There's no speculation about it. The shooter's employer lost $1 million on the game. And the gunman's last comment before the killing was "Thanks for the own goal." It was a real tragedy too, as Escobar was one of the most loved players on the team among Colombians. I've been to Colombia a few times since then and still see tribute posters in memory of Escobar.

There's no doubt that Carrieri can finish--he has to get better at the other aspects of the game---holding the ball, not giving it away on a bad pass, etc. Work on that left foot also for god's sake. I'm glad to see that he was successful for Colorado last year though.
