It may not be the World Cup, but the Caribbean Cup 2009 soccer series is international, and it's extremely exciting.

Every Sunday afternoon through Sept. 6, New York-area soccer fans will flock to the Thomas Jefferson High School field, at 125-08 Flatlands Ave. (near Shepherd Ave.) in Brooklyn, for matchups between teams named for Caribbean nations. Tournament matches are preceded by a special-feature soccer game beginning at 1p.m.

This is the 18th year for the Caribbean Cup series, and it just keeps growing and growing, said Curtis Chance, a tournament organizer.

In today's competition, St. Vincent and the Grenadines takes on Dominica; Grenada meets Guyana, and St. Kitts-Nevis will battle Haiti. Game times each week are 2:40 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., respectively.

Next Sunday, it will be St. Lucia vs. Haiti; Trinidad and Tobago vs. Columbia, and Jamaica vs. Barbados. The lineup for July 5 - the Fourth of July weekend - will be Grenada vs. Dominica; St. Vincent and the Grenadines vs. Guyana, and St. Kitts-Nevis vs. Antigua and Barbuda.

    For tickets and information, call (646) 879-5732, (347) 886-8224 or (917) 868-0498.

In certain circles, Colombia similar to Venezuela is considered a secondary Carribean nation. It's a slight strech but its valid.

its a stretch of about 400 miles for Colombia, and about 100 for Venezuela.. those circles should get their heads checked, or at least take a look at an atlas before expanding the known Caribbean to, really, just any large group of minorities living in NYC with known soccer skills.

    anyway,
    PR should be represented
