How many tickets will be sold for July 4, 2004 (real or imagined by Counce)? Winner gets 2 buttons...
I think Counce will imagine just a small amount less than last year (approx 61k) with 40,000 buts in the seats.
For historical attendances: 7/4/03:60,142 Kansas City at Colorado 7/4/02:61,202 Chicago at Colorado 7/4/01:60,500 DC United at Colorado 7/4/00:53,126 Chicago at Colorado 7/4/99:51,025 Columbus at Colorado 7/4/98:46,722 MetroStars at Colorado 7/4/97:36,252 San Jose at Colorado 7/4/96:~26,000?
Just for the hell of it...I'm going to be overly optimistic and say they will beat the 2002 record. Of course I'm probably wrong.
Most every year the Rockies have been out of town on the 4th. This year they have fireworks games Friday and Saturday nights. My guess is in the 40's.
I voted on the "disgrace" between 36k and 46k because I haven't heard much about the game. Also, KSE seems able to hide the Rapids pretty effectively. Counce may imagine many more though. ps: my "disgrace" group is the most popular vote currently. Sorry 5280, no malice intended.
This is not correct. I was at the Rockies' fireworks this past year and the year before. They are always on the 2nd and 3rd of July. These don't ditract from the Rapids attendance as they happened both last year and in 2002. Northcal, how have you not heard much about the game. It has been the only thing KSE is advertising. I've been called by the Rapids, I've gotten mailings, I've seen it on tv and I've seen it on busses. They are only advertising the 4th of July game.
Who said Counce sells tickets? We have some real Counce apologists here...sheesh. In the good ol' days, the attendance was a figure pulled out of someone's tailpipe. And yes, I do understand the concept that it's tickets sold/comp'ed (not butts through the turnstyle). Errr...at this point I should point out that I have my toungue in cheek! Crack a smile (on one end of your body or another)...
Call me 7 of 9, or 19 of 19. And, as 19 votes in the poll have demonstrated, a plurality of Rapids fans have superior "The Price is Right" math abilities. It's clearly the largest spread anywhere near a reasonable guess for number of attendees...without going over. Remember to get your cats and dogs spayed and nutered, neutered, nuetered, uhhh, whatever. Cheers, BilFish
I voted for the "Between 2003 attendance of 60,142 and 61,201" choice because it's the most difficult one to hit. I've been training for this all year and knows the time to take it to the next level.
I assume you mean 53,126-60,141 is the obvious (odds favorite) choice. However, I think the Rapids will want to avoid announcing any number under 60,000. So really, your choice represents 60,000-60,141, with the next higher spread of 60,142-61,201 offering a bigger spread (but 61,202+ would be the best bet if you think the number will be 60K+).
Geeeeeeez. What are you? Sober? That's some pretty math you got there. Dang... Since I predicted 60,000+ fans, you are correct in saying that I actually have a very tight 141 fan range. But them's the breaks, and I'll just have to go for the gold. Cheers, BilFish
I think the official number of 41k points to a conspiracy by the former regime. Uncle Phil inflated attendance numbers.... (Gasp!!!)
I think it's far more accurate to say that the old Rapids front office sales staff was heads and tails better than the Crush/Mammoth/Nuggets/Avs and OH YEAH that silly soccer team. This is the same disaster that New England experienced and still hasn't fully recovered from. I want Michael Hitchcock (sp?) and his staff back. *sigh* I was with "bilfish" and got the Carnival guess wrong. I had no idea I was guessing too high.
If we didn't have Invesco Field with it's state-of-the-art turnstyles that electronically count who shows up and the box office computer setup that knows exactly how many tickets are sold for the past 3 years, I might agree with you. In the old days with Mile High, the announced attendance could really be fudged. But not so with Invesco Field.
Do the Rapids announce the tickets through the gate or tickets sold? There is still room fudge numbers with all the new electronics, just announce the better number.
They can either report turnstyle count (an exact number with no fudge) or a ticket sold count (an exact number with no fudge). Nobody announces the turnstyle count (this includes the Rapids). In other words, they did announce the better number (the best number they could announce).
Or they could do neither....... I say that you have had the wool pulled over your eyes if you believe everything you saw and heard and read last year.
