They are negotiating carlos to chelsea, roberto carlos is a great player. Damn what is the president thinking, losing to real sociedad and push all the blames to carlos. i think the president of real madrid should be re-elected. Cant the president see that his team is getting stronger, he just need one more signing to complete the dream of all real madrid fans.

Wow. Look at all the world all stars you have on your team, Figo, Beckham, Carlos, Ronaldo, Raul. Forgive me if I forget anyone. I really don't think you need another big signing. If anything it wouldn't be bad for a 1 or 2 star players to leave.

Damn, Soccernet's usually reliable. Assuming this goes through, I guess we play RBravo at left back unless we get DelHorno, and sign another back (I want Chivu personally). I think RCarlos going is sad, but probably good for the club: he's getting older and less effective, his raids forward were less useful and more costly this year, and 20m is a good amount of money (that plus another 15-20 for Morientes could be enough for Chivu and most of XAlonso or Joaquin)

I think it is a done deal. Valdano would not say things liked this if it is not a done deal. Chivu is needed at Real Madrid.

you know, now that i think about it, as much as i love Roberto Carlos and wish hed stay on the team, that idea of moving Bravo to left back isnt all that bad. heres my take, if Bravo IS shifted to the left back position, that mean "see you later" to all the runs that Carlos used to give us, meaning that FINALLY we can have 4 playing defense as opposed to only 2. this means that Becks can now, on top of having Samuel have his back plus 2 more that he didnt have this year, go forward with more ease. this would be a huge help cause we can actually allow room for Zidane, Figo, Raul, Becks, Ronnie and whomever else we have upfront next year to roam freely without having the logjams we did this year with 3/4 of the team upfront. i mean, we DO have the best offensive players in the world, i say let THEM determine the game, keep the backs in the back, and wow......this sounds real good to me. take the $$$ from the Carlos sale and bolster the bench now that Camacho actually has a say in the players he wants. in my opinion, if this is what ends up happening, its gonna work out 100x better than playing everyone upfront ever did.

It really doesn't make sense for Chelsea to go after Carlos. That's the one position on Chelsea where I wouldn't go playing around with. Bridge has been very good. Do u really want to go get an aging star to block Bridge's playing time and development?

I think R.Carlos is just trying to get a better contract but I don't think Chelsea is in the picture. I think its mostly media hype.

I still don't think Carlos will leave, but if he does, Juanfran can be had for cheap cheap from relegated Celta (yes, I'm appalled & disgusted myself that I needed an article from Marca, where he says it's every player's dream to play at Madrid, to be reminded of this player)

RC is one of my Top 10 all-time but I think that if we get about 30m$, it's a great deal for a 31 year-old who has just had his worst season ever. It will also help control the wage bill. Between raul Bravo and Del Horno/Juanfran, we should also get good cover and a stronger squad, besides more defensive stability.

And, for Sinko's Litmus Test.... :)

Roberto Carlos renueva con el Real Madrid hasta 2007

    From Marca:

How we said in Spain "Hablando se entiende la gente". I think that it is a great agreement for both parts.

    Positions before negociation:

    Roberto Carlos.

    - he wanted 4 years more (until 2009), and more money.

    Real Madrid

    - Real offered him, 2 years more (until 2007), and more money but not as much money as RC wanted.

    Final agreement:

    - 2 years more (until 2007, he will be 33 years old). But:

    - The new contract will start the next season, it means 3 years with the new contract, not 1 year with the old (the next year) and 2 with the new one.

    - If Roberto Carlos play more than 30 games in his last season, the contract will be extended 1 year more (until 2008, 34 years old).

    - Other very important thing of the agreement is that Roberto Carlos has accepted to have EU passport. He always had said no. He will leave space to sign another non-european player. This will permit to the club much more combinations to sign new players this year and the next years. It seems that he will have the new passport for the end of the year (November, December).

In summary, great news for the club. And i think that Camacho has been a very important part of this agreement. Roberto Carlos always has been one of his favourite players, he voted him for the FIFA wold player the two years that he was Spain NT manager. Roberto Carlos was very important for his plans for the team. He spoke with Roberto Carlos several time to try to persuade him to stay in RM, and at the same time he spoke to Florentino and Valdano so that they make a effor to maintain RC in Madrid.

Finally a happy end, when the positions between RC and the Club was very far at the end of the season, and nobody wanted to give in.

Perhaps, this is more important than the deal itself.
