If Guadeloupe won the Gold Cup, statutorily it couldn't compete in confederations' cup because it isn't a FIFA member. But i think Guadeloupe had a moral duty to represent CONCACAF in confederations' cup as champion of this area. The solution must be political, legal and diplomatic! I would like to clarify that Guadeloupe and Martinique have not play the Gold Cup as guest team but as CONCACAF associate member.
Hopefully if nothing else, you guys will break the Top 20 in the Caribbean according to FIFA Rankings.
Media officer in CONCACAF told me that this match schedule is not official and that is the reason why the match schedule is not on CONCACAF website.
http://concacaf-futball.blogspot.com/2010/04/caribbean-cup-2010.html says Martinique will host the Final Round.
Cayman Islands have begun preparations http://www.caymanactive.com/sports/football/1671-cayman-senior-mens-team
Suriname's FA have posted Edgar's schedule so it seems official http://www.svb.sr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=513&Itemid=36
Cayman Islands are dealing with commitment issues http://www.caymannetnews.com/news-21257--11-11---.html
I posted this in the TV forum as well, but does anyone expect any of the games to be on TV in the United States? How do people in the U.S. usually watch games from this tournament? Will there be internet streams?
Internet Streams or online websites from Carib countries. Last time around I saw one from a Trini website...forgot the name of it now. but we rely heavy on Internet streams. Don't think US TV are interested in the Caribs.
http://www.concacaf.com/page/GoldCup/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2085843,00.html is titled "Caribbean cup to start August 18."
It looks like the schedule on Wikipedia was very close to being correct. The only things that we're off were a few of the game dates by 1 day and Cuba and Netherlands Antilles were reversed.
I'm wondering why Netherlands Antilles were suddenly seeded instead of Cuba. Cuba is clearly a better team, and has a better FIFA ranking, and I presume also has a better CONCACAF or CFU ranking, if there are such things. I can only imagine it's because of the scheduled dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles on 10th October 2010 when it will in effect become Curaçao. I'm not sure Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba will be eligible to compete under the Netherlands Antilles after this date, as they will officially become part of the Netherlands. I wonder if there will be a name change to Curaçao to reflect this - seems a bit strange to have Netherlands Antilles listed as playing when they will no longer exist.
I transformed the schedule to a graphic for my blog (natiosuriname.blogspot.com) which is about the national team of Suriname. Maybe you guys like it too see it in this way: http://sites.google.com/site/natiosuriname/DCC2010DRAW.pdf
Thanks, man - that makes it a lot easier to explain the tournament to my parents. Just one question, though: how come, in your graphic, Guadeloupe has the French flag, but Martinique gets to keep its own?
Cayman Islands beat club side Roma FC 3-1 on Sunday as they prepare for the DCC. http://www.compasscayman.com/caycompass/2010/07/27/Lindo-sets-the-tone-as-Digicel-action-starts/ Also apparently Caymanian teenager Luigi Hernandez will have some trials in England after the tournament.
The Surinamese Football Association announces that their matches in Group B (Antigua & Barbuda, Cuba, Saint-Martin, Suriname) are postponed. Reason is because the CFU will change the group. There is also a chance that the matches will be host by Suriname in stead of Antigua. I don't know if FIFA made a mistake but on the website http://www.fifa.com/associations/association=atg/index.html you can see that not Saint-Martin but Guadeloupe will play against the teams of Group B. The FIFA page of Haiti (http://www.fifa.com/associations/association=hai/index.html) contains also the secondround match of Guadeloupe against Haiti. So its a bit confusing..
It will now start October 6th...and it seems one team has already dropped out (the article says 23 teams will participate). http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,125188.html
