    HISTORY:

KC defender (and former DCU fan favorite) Carey Talley has organized the second all-star charity game to benefit the Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center's Pediatric Neurological Center. Le Bonheur is located in Carey's hometown of Memphis.

In March of this year Talley's dad, John, passed away due to a cancerous brain tumor. Before his death Carey created a foundation in his honor and they selected the Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center as the benefactor.

Carey was inspired to organize an exhibition game in honor of his father who has made many contributions to the Memphis soccer community. John was very involved in the creation and operation of the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

Last year in lieu of a roadtrip, the SEs collected contributions to purchase tickets for underprivileged children to attend the game. We raised over $1,000.

    ROADTRIP

A few of us SEs are going to attend the game this year and see some of Memphis, you're welcome to join us. Below are some suggestions for booking your trip.

    FLIGHTS
The Mike Rose Soccer Complex has a deal with Northwest Airlines (you can get 5% off). Go to the Mike Rose website, http://www.mikerosesoccercomplex.com and go to airline for instructions on how to get the discount.

    HOTEL
    We're staying at
    Holiday Inn Express
    4225 American Way
    Memphis, TN 38118
    http://www.mikerosesoccercomplex.co...yexpamerway.htm

To get a discount through the sports complex, follow these instructions at
http://www.mikerosesoccercomplex.com/reservations.html Along with this hotel, they have contact with several other hotels in the area (check their website). These are all in a safe part of town. You can also see if other online discounters (like hotels.com) have deals at these recommended hotels.

    GROUND TRANSPORTATION
It seems many hotels have airport shuttles but from what we've read public transportation is a bit of a novelty in Memphis (hey, the King didn't have all those big Caddies just for show!) so plan on renting a car.

    GAME TICKETS

    Reserved seats $16
    General Admission $10

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE THE TRIP BUT WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FUND:

The SEs are going to make a corporate donation and we have invited DC United supporters to contribute as well. We essentially going to be buying tickets so that underprivileged kids can attend this game. Our deadline to contribute is Oct 14.

I was wondering if the KC fans were up for a challenge (SEs vs Mystics) on who could raise the most money. Maybe the loser would have to do something embarrassing at the MLS Supporters Bash in Boston (like wear a Marco wig for the night, you all could come up with something for us; anything involving Meola is good, we STILL hate him!) Just trying to do something fun, raise some money and support a good guy.

If you're up for the challenge or have any questions, shoot me an email at kim@screaming-eagles.com

    Uh, no.

The Screaming Eagles are a centralized organization with 200+ members and years of fund-raising experience. The Mystics are a beer-soaked supporters' section. I like it better our way, and we're not going to take the Screaming Eagles on in a venue that is to their advantage.

Oh come now, didn't my two years in KC do anything to bridge the gap here? :)

I take it that either Ford or a local Ford dealer is putting up the money for this.

Miami and Tampa Bay's logo are on the board.

something else that I noticed is that Preki is not listed as a wizard, but as World Cup 98'. Everyone else has a team affiliation.

Yes, a local Ford dealership put up some cash (and they're having a drawing for an Expedition so maybe I'm driving home!)

Contact Dave re being a proxy, you all can probably settle up at the El Sal game.

Yeah, we're both going (plus another SE) but I can't be trusted with my own money at these things nevermind someone elses (and heaven help some little kid who tries to outbid me!)

    1) Who?
    2) Hard to play a pickup soccer game when nobody shows up for one team, and the other gets only three players. :p
