Re Hannover 96 vs 1860 Munchen

Huge win for Hannover taking them out of a relegation spot and level on points with Bayer Leverkusen, although the team they leapfrogged, Borussia Moenchengladbach, now have a game in hand as their game was postponed. The coach is obviously very high on Julian de Guzman to put him out there with 10 minutes left and 1860 basically playing with 4 strikers at that time. As posted by olafgb on the Germany forum, new Chinese signing Jiay Shao played for Munchen and the game was shown live in China to an estimated audience of 300 million. I wonder if any Canadian (other than OH with the 3 Lions) has been seen by a bigger TV audience??

    More from Germany

Stalteri and Bremen lost valuable points on Sunday dropping a 1-0 decision to Hamburger SV, thereby failing to gain ground on Bayern who were held to a draw on Saturday. Borussia Dortmund jumped over Bremen into 2nd place on Sunday when they defeated Bayer Leverkusen. Bremen are in action again on Wednesday as they take on 1860 Munich in the German Football Federation Cup (DFB Pokal). Maycoll Canizales and the WB amateur side do not play until March 1st.
Tam Nsaliwa played another exhibition on Saturday in the cold. FC Saarbrucken are off to southern Spain this week to regroup prior to the Regional League South getting back in action later this month.

Jeremy Shepherd came on in the 65th minute for Hertha Berlin's A1 Junior (U18s) team as they lost 2-1 to FC Carl-Zeiss Jena in Youth Cup action on the weekend.

This is surely Radzinski's season so far. He has been consistently scoring, despite having to defer to Rooney so many times.

DFB Cup (German FA Cup) (R)

Stalteri and company are on to the semifinals as they scored late against 1860 Munich in regulation to draw 1-1 and then scored 3 extra time goals. They have been drawn away to FC Kaiserlautern in one semi-final, with Bayern Munich hosting Bayer Leverkusen in the other. Bremen would have to be favoured but a win by FCK would pose a dilemma for the club as it may well dissolve post season like AC Fiorentina in Serie A did this past year. A UEFA Cup spot is up for grabs here as the winner will likely face Bayern who are all but guaranteed a Champions League spot.

Re: DFB Cup (German FA Cup) (R)

If Bremen wins in the semi-finals, is this the same German Cup whose final is May 31st, the day before the Canada-Germany friendly?

In which case, if we want to see Stalteri play in that match, we should be cheering for Kaiserslautern (unless Paul's stamina is even greater than it already is). It would be nice to see our full squad for that, & Stalteri may likely get a UEFA spot with Bremen currently sitting in 3rd place.

I don't think we've ever seen our full squad together once under Osieck. The match against Switzerland was close, but Brennan didn't play.

Re: Re: DFB Cup (German FA Cup) (R)

It is indeed the 'DFB Pokal', similar to England's FA Cup, but they start with only 64 teams (IIRC) so the amateur club involvement is more limited.
The German national team will also be suffering if it's Bayern in the final.
It would be interesting to know which game Paul Stalteri would rather play in.
