A bigger potential advantage is the NT. TFC has been reasonably good (for a single team) at developing talent up to the level of an MLS sub. So there are a whole pile of guys who have come through the TFC system and even gotten caps at the NT level. What TFC has been fairly bad at is developing them to the next step of being a solid MLS starter or graduating them to Europe. So most of those guys never become NT mainstays. The only ones I can think of with double digit caps are Doneil Henry, Ashtone Morgan, and Osorio. (And Osorio didn't come up through their academy system.) That's a waste of developmental effort and talent. Happily, the early signs are that they want to change that. Also, it seems the kids coming up now are a lot better than they were a few years ago. Nelson, Shaffelburg, Priso, and Marshall-Rutty are just higher calibre than guys like Manelle, Babouli, or Aparicio were at that age. So the jump off point toward the NT will be that much higher.
