Lecce was relegated out of Serie A in 2011-2012, and I don't know why they dropped two levels to Serie C. They were in Serie C for six seasons from 2012-2013 through 2017-2018, then they got consecutive promotions. I root for Genoa, who needed a head-to-head tiebreaker to avoid relegation, so Genoa and Lecce could be battling to survive.

Milan Borjan was the hero for Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) as they won penalty kicks at Copenhagen, and they're now guaranteed to reach the Champions League or Europa League Group Stage. They play Young Boys of Switzerland on August 21 and 27, and they get to host the second leg. Young Boys have a 27.500 coefficient, which is worse than Copenhagen's 31.000. Here's how today went:

The first leg in Serbia was 1-1. Today, Copenhagen had 65 percent of the possession, more shots (22 to 6), more shots on goal excluding penalties (5 to 1), and more corner kicks (12 to 1). Red Star Belgrade took the lead in the 17th minute and allowed an equalizer in the 45th minute. In the 54th minute, Red Star Belgrade's Nemanja Milunovic was ejected for a second yellow. Surprisingly, Copenhagen didn't dominate possession until extra time. Copenhagen had 71 percent of the possession in the first half and 55 percent in the second half. Neither club had a shot on goal in the second half. Copenhagen had 72 percent of the possession in extra time; all 12 shots, of which 4 were saved, 5 missed, and 3 were blocked; and all 7 corner kicks. In the 75 minutes of the second half and extra time combined, Red Star Belgrade had 1 shot, which wasn't on goal. Red Star Belgrade's time down a man ended at 58 minutes when Copenhagen's Pep Mas was ejected for a second yellow. Red Star Belgrade got 7 yellow cards, and Copenhagen got 4. Here's how penalty kicks went with Red Star Belgrade (RSB) shooting first and the score written with Copenhagen (C) first:

1: RSB missed off the crossbar (0-0)
    1: C goal (1-0)
    2: RSB goal (1-1)
    2: C missed wide (1-1)
3: RSB missed over the goal (1-1)
    3: C goal (2-1)
    4: RSB goal (2-2)
    4: C saved by Borjan (2-2)
    5: RSB goal (2-3)
    5: C goal (3-3)
6: RSB missed over the goal (3-3)
    6: C saved by Borjan (3-3)
7: RSB missed over the goal (3-3)
    7: C missed over the goal (3-3)
    8: RSB goal (3-4)
    8: C goal (4-4)
    9: RSB goal (4-5)
    9: C goal (5-5)
    10: RSB goal* (5-6)
    10: C goal (6-6)
    11: RSB goal (6-6)
    11: C saved by Borjan (6-7)

    * The tenth attempt for each club was by their goalkeeper. Players other than goalkeepers made 11 (55 percent), with 3 saved all by Borjan (15 percent), and 6 missed (30 percent). Normally goalkeepers would shoot eleventh, but both clubs were down a man. For the eleventh kicker, it was somebody who shot earlier. RSB used the player who scored on the their fifth attempt, and C used their first shooter. When all players have attempted penalty kicks and more are necessary, I thought the second time through would have to have the same shooting order, but it doesn't. Hypothetically a club could have a player shoot twice in a row, but that's very unlikely because clubs will normally have the goalkeeper shoot last and not shoot first the second time.

RSB should be embarrassed that 4 of their first 7 attempts missed the target, but they won anyway. Congratulations to Borjan. I have no idea what goalkeepers from Concacaf if any played in a UEFA Champions League Group Stage, but Borjan has a chance to do that.

Unfortunately, FIFA didn't mention Borjan 3 penalty saves.

If anybody in the USA wants to watch Young Boys host Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) on Wednesday, the game will be in Spanish on Galavision.

Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) scored the middle 2 goals of a 2-2 draw at Young Boys. Young Boys had much better statistics, but Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) is in great shape to reach the Champions League Group Stage in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1990-1991 and 1991-1992 when it was the European Cup, which they won in 1990-1991.

I watched the last 20 minutes of this game..saw the post game stats. 10 goal attempts combined through 90 minutes for both teams...there must have been long periods of nothing happening. Good result for Milan and team.

Davies scored in the 80th minute against Mainz today in Bayern's 6-1 victory...

Came on for Perisic on the left wing in the 67th minute and had a few good crosses into Lewandowski before the goal.

Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda; hereafter RSB) 3-1 Olympiacos
    Tottenham 2-7 Bayern Munich

On October 22, RSB goes to Tottenham, and they would be in a great shape with a draw away. Through two games, Bayern has 6 points and +8, RSB has 3 points and -1, Tottenham has 1 point and -5, and Olympiacos has 1 point and -2. Tottenham is ahead of Olympiacos on head-to-head goals, but Olympiacos didn't have a chance to score at Tottenham yet. Head-to-head points, goal differential, goals, and away goals are tiebreakers before overall goal differential.

In his third straight start for Bayern Munich, Davies had a great game at LB against Borussia Dortmund in Bayern's 4-0 victory. Shut down almost every attack to his side. Forced highly rated Sancho to be subbed off early in the game. He had nothing for Davies. His stats below...

Great to see Davies get an opportunity....still hoping he gets a loan to a German team playing 4-3-3 or even 4-2-3-1 and in need of an attacking winger...I'm not saying he is Gareth Bale but Bale would have been wasted as a left back where he started at Spurs. I feel Davies will be wasted at left back if kept there, even though it is a position of weakness for Canada.

I'm not exactly a regular in Canada threads, but I'm very surprised that this is the only real post I could find about this game or really even Davies himself. Best defensive game I can recall seeing from an outside back. Almost every 1 v 1 against him turned into a counter going the other way. 7 tackles were one less than the next two players combined. 94% passing was best in the game among starting players. 3 dribbles were tied for second, one less the best player. The only area where he wasn't phenomenal was in attack.

This wasn't an outlier either. He was very good in the prior game, and whoscored has him the second highest rated player in Bayern for the year - a young kid playing a new position. The kid looked very much the part of the worlds best left back.

Speaking of Whoscored, they have Davies rated the 3rd best player of the Champions League group stage after Messi and Lewandowski...

Had another great game against Spurs last night in Bayern's 3-1 victory. An assist to Coutinho, his shot against the post directly lead to Muller's goal and this great chase down of Son to stop a scoring chance...

Alphonso Davies with another great game, assisting Lewandowski on Bayern 3rd goal in a 3-0 victory over Chelsea in the 1st leg of the Champions League playoffs (3:57 in video).
