I hope the roster gets set soon. With the draft and waivers coming up, Im anxious to see who makes the team, and get over all the speculation of who's being traded, drafted, cut, etc... With the WWC this year, I think the rosters for all the teams are going to fluctuate all season as the players shuffle in and out of the league to play for their national teams. As far as the Charge are concerned, we will be without Pichon, Fair, & Lihong, and possibly Benson. Loosing Pichon will be tough, but having Smith back should be able to help there. Hopefully Scasna can be a 5- 10 goal scorer. Tullock is better than Fair, so we dont loose anything in the mid, but we dont have anyone on the current roster to replace Zhao. Karvellson could be a surprise in the mid, but we'll see. As much as I want to see Benson make the NT, I really dont want to loose her from the D line. With the real possibility of loosing Iverson, loosing Benny would really hurt. I guess Alfiler could fill in there if shes still on the team. KSP
KS, it would be folly to suggest on my part that they've settled the renegotiation of the CBA yet. I think we need to look at the possibility of the draft taking place *before* the waiver draft, or the draft date winds up being pushed back. That would not be good for any multitude of reasons. A player limit has to be agreed to; why not 20? (yes, I know it's a rhetorical question since monetary considerations are involved. ) Paul
Dont you think that rosters will be larger this year due to NT considerations? Last year was 22 players, I would think that it would be at least that this year. I always thought the waiver draft should happen AFTER the college draft anyhow. It makes more sense. You dont know who your going to get in the draft, so it would be tough to waive someone who you are speculating on replacing with a draft pick, and then have it backfire. Now you dont have your original player and you didnt get the player in the draft you wanted. To me the draft should take place, all the foreign allocations should be filled, then the rosters should be paired down say by late February. This gives players and teams a chance to find those last minute fill ins to cover weaknesses in their roster. Just my two cents..... KSP
In a league with finacial difficulties, going from 18 to 20 is an odd possibility, it just doesn't save money. Drafted players would NOT be considered as part of the waiver process, just existing players would be my guess. As to losing players, the WWC starts a full month after the WUSA season, so I wouldn't expect many in season disruptions, more in the magnitude of last season. Once Algarve Cup ends, I wouldn't expect extensive disruptions. And since the Charge have a deep roster, the more disruptions the better for the Charge . The big key is Zhao, or NOT to Zhao. I wonder if Benson asked her today. Speaking of Zhao, she was the dominant player in the China 2-0 win. Sounds like USA got taken apart in the 1st half, but played better in the 2nd half. Benson trial lasted a half, I wonder what Heinrichs things now between Pearce and Benson??
