I'm kinda speechless. That ad is playing to how unsophisticated people think Jews vote, not to the reality of how and why Jews vote the way we do. Yes, it's weirdly antisemitic in its stereotypes. But it's also weirdly patronizing and disempowering in its insinuation that Jews need Trump's protection. And it's totally oblivious to the fact that most Jews think Trump is a threat not a savior.

Thanks. It came across to me as stereotypical and rather nonsensical, to be honest. I had a hard time trying to understand how it would play well with people who are Jewish. I can only imagine how an ad trying to convince gays to vote for him would go and based on this, I'm sure I would just end up offended.

I think it would have been more compelling for certain target audiences if they dropped the stereotypes, went with younger actors in a more modern setting, had premised it on left wing antisemitism, and played up the idea that liberals had turned on Jews (which has some reality) so Jews should throw in with Trump. But they didn't do that.

There's a lot, and I mean a lot of things to be discussed about this. And it's a delicate matter. I have a suspicion that a lot of it is due to online culture, especially on social media plays a part for men and women. Not just Rogan and the like, but people on the other end that can be extreme. I do see a lot of that rhetoric, both right and left. One particular family friend of mine, posts like a left wing Boomer despite being younger than me, some of the stuff I've seen, yikes. And I imagine seeing that, especially at a young age can play a part. It's the thing you

There's an NY Times article that I wish I could remember the name of that I saw years ago that did a deep dive on this phenomenon. It was an interesting read. I tried looking for it but I couldn't find anything.

I have some other opinions about this matter, but that's more of a thing to be discussed if Harris wins the election. I will say however that too many people think like Albie from White Lotus on this matter.

Yes they are the most privileged, but people don't compare things in absolutes, they do it on a relative basis, and these white males see themselves slipping because they are. The middle class has been and will continue to go away. The powerful try to convince them that their money has flowed to the undesirable classes and of course that's hogwash but it's an easy claim to swallow because the money has flowed away from them.

They aren't all turning to bro culture. Some turn to drugs. Some just give up and play video games all day in their parent's basement. There is a suicide problem. And there's no easy solution. The nature of the world and the nature of work have changed and there's no going back. We can't train our way out of this because there's already too many coders in the world today. The first thing we have to do to these people is tell them the truth. The world sucks now and it's going to continue that way for a while at least and anyone that says they have an easy fix is lying. After we are honest with them, then we can work on solutions. But ignoring them just makes space for manipulators to bend them to their designs.

I see your point. Travis Kelce and his bro Jason should be one. But they gravitate to Bosa. It's really tough because remember they are growing up in houses where Grandpa is a Gingrinch guy and then Dad's are Paul Ryan types. How do you reverse that?

I should add that a good chunk of the progressive movement also plays a role.

this isn’t particularly a US thing. it’s also seen in europe and elsewhere with a gender gap where women are increasingly more liberal than men.

a key part of this is how to even reach these people in the first place.

I think it is underestimated that Rogan and co are artifacts of the Algo.

Youtube and spotify choose to amplify their garbage vax conspiracies for example. that is a choice those platforms make because they pick the winners and losers.

so even if you create more positive role models these people still need to game the algo to get seen.

personally i think it’s hopeless unless we build actual progressive media infra.

As I mentioned before, it is not a matter of ignoring them. To look for solutions though we have to go beyond role models superficialites, this discussion should go on a deeper level though and that thread may not be the best forum for this.
To add a couple of points, I would argue this issue sits mainly in familes and education.

We can't take young male in a vacuum and remove them from their environment (i.e family structure, communities etc). We are living in a country where a majority or white males are openly supporting a racist and wannabe fascist. What would we expect their sons to become? As an example, have we noticed that most young school shooters are living in families with a prevalent "gun culture"?

Second thing is the education system, we have seen how the GOP is systematically dismantling the schools. They are basically dumbing down generations of young people in red states. No surprise they are realizing the more educated people are, the less inclined they are to support the retrograde republican "philosophy". Florida is the perfect example of this reality. Added to that, the right wing bias of social medias today, you have a recipe for this kind of disaster.
As a counter example, my home state of Maryland has an excellent education system, great community colleges etc. As a result (not directly but very connected), this (better educated) state has been trending bluer every election season.

This ************************ is truly sick.....He is basically putting a shooting mark on Liz Cheney's back.

Trump in Arizona talks about putting Liz Cheney in the line of gunfire.

“She’s a radical war hawk,” Mr. Trump said, in front of thousands at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Ariz. “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.”

The last shreds of dignity left in Nikki Haley just evaporated ...... What an empty soul this woman is.She is in ********ing stand by waiting for a call from Trump that may never come.

“With only four days until the election, the clock is ticking for Donald Trump to engage Nikki Haley on the campaign trail — if he even wants to at all,” Politicoreports.

“Haley, the last Republican candidate to drop out during the primaries, has said that she remains
on ‘standby’ for the Trump campaign. She has put her name on fundraising and has spoken favorably of her former political rival in the media and on the main stage at the Republican National Convention.”

Of course it will never come - she's a "nasty" woman of color who "betrayed" him. No matter how much she humiliates herself, it won't be enough to win his favor.

Christie is out there talking, but hasn't publicly said he's voting for Harris, right?

    Then there's gutless Romney.

There's a long list of GOPers with major name recognition who want Trump to lose but are too spineless to actually do something publicly that will help ensure that result.

Haley is chosen to kiss the ring, which places her in a lower rung of political hell.
