A poll from Rasmussen, which some people think is an inaccurate pollster, has Biden with 57%, RFK Jr. with 25%, and Williamson with 3%. I hope RFK's support is less than that. If his polls get better, and Biden makes mistakes with age, it can convince voters that it is okay for an incumbent to not be renominated, maybe RFK gets important endorsements, maybe he wins states, it becomes comeptitive, and Biden has to spend money to win primaries in states he does not want to spend money in because they are safe in either direction in the general election. Hopefully RFK does not improve. Since term limits were made, the only time an incumbent chose not to run was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. Since then, the thirteen incumbents had five wins, four losses, and four term-limiteds. That excludes JFK, who was assassinated during his first and only term. A general election between Trump and RFK would be like choosing how much shit I wanted to eat. I strongly prefer Biden over any other candidate in any party. Edit: Right after I posted, another poll has much better results with Biden with 68%, RFK Jr. with 7%, and Williamson with 4%. I watched that. Cuban-Americans are much more Republican than other Hispanics, and there are not many Cuban-Americans outside of Florida. The national Democratic party saw the close losses for senator and governor in 2018 when Democrats won the nationwide House vote by 8.5 percent, and decided to give up and stop spending money in Florida. The national Democratic party spent much less in Florida in 2020 than in 2018, and a negligible amount in 2022. A drop from 69 percent to 61 percent among a group that will increase what percent of the electorate it is matters.
Folks, I said no malarkey and I mean no f**kin’ malarkey.Trump wants credit for ending Roe? He’ll get it at the ballot box in ‘24. https://t.co/ocHkSMId53— Dark Brandon (@VoteDarkBrandon) September 20, 2023
We need to stop saying this. Is Biden old? Sure. Will he make mistakes? Sure. Did he make mistakes 5 years ago? Sure. Did he make mistakes 10 years ago? Sure. But the more we keep saying Biden will make mistakes "because of age," the more we will say that all mistakes he makes will be attributed to age. And it will distract from issues surrounding Trump's age.
Pod Save America had a good discussion on this as Trump has already pivotted to his general election position, no doubt convinced he doesn't have to suck up to the religious right as they have nowhere to go His calculation seems to be the pro life crowd will realise he is lying in his efforts to run to the left of Pence/Ron etc - he did the same thing in '16 and people fell for it. Also his pitch is that now abortion can be negotiated with the Dems and he has given the religious right a strong bargaining position. So he tries to have his cake and eat it - and it will probably work with his fans
By the same token, the Biden campaign seems to have dome the same and Biden himself has turned his fire on TFG. Not a bad strategy if I am asked. Comments like below are not made accidentally. “President Joe Biden said Donald Trump looks destined to be the Republican party’s 2024 nominee at a campaign fundraiser in New York, framing a potential rematch as a battle for the future of democracy,” Bloomberg reports. Said Biden: “He may be the nominee again. It looks like he is destined to be the nominee again.”
Imagine if you voted for this guy 3 times Ex Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson reveals Trump almost never wore a mask during the pandemic because it would mess with his makeup: “When he looked at the straps of his mask, he saw they were covered in bronzer. He wasn’t happy about that. ‘Why did no one else tell me… pic.twitter.com/Smhy9djIYC— Mike Sington (@MikeSington) September 21, 2023
The more likely scenario is Trump dying 30 days before the election. As for what I would do. Do a little dance Make a little love Get down tonight
I was thinking that I'd buy a gun just for this purpose. Unless you were talking about heroin. I can't go for that.
Could this put Florida in play? Team Biden is going to allow Venezuelan migrants to work https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/20/nyregion/biden-adams-migrants.html
Cubans coming over and working are associated with Regan. Biden's decision might give the Venezuelans some though about voting for Biden/Dems, or not voting Trump.
Nah, MAGAzuelans are more afraid of the commie menace Biden is. OTOH I think that Puddin fingers is becoming so unlikable that it oprns up a small window for dems.
Interesting article on Biden campaign. Delaware Sen. Christopher A. Coons turned in the stemwinder of the night, according to several attendees, mocking a recent piece by a Washington Post columnist calling for Biden to step aside because of his age. David Ignatius revealed a deep secret to me in that column, one I didn’t previously know. Our president is 80. I was unaware! Struck dumb by the experience! I’ve careened around the halls of the Senate today, saying, ‘My God, my God, did you know? Nancy Pelosi is 83?’” Coons joked, referring to the California congresswoman and former House speaker. “Sharp as a tack.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/2023/09/23/biden-campaign-out-of-view/
So in the last 24 hours deranged Mango Shit Gibbon called for the death of General Milley and the end of 1A journalism. Is it fascism yet?
If anyone is interested, Sarah Longwell has a very interesting (and terrifying) focus group podcast with guest Jake Tapper. They basically talk about the attitude of Trump voters to the indictments, and the role of media in that, tldr It's remarkable how brainwashed these voters are and how much more influential right wing media is to their beliefs than mainstream media. To my mind it's almost more of a fun religion where instead of hearing about all the old crap, you can just wallow in fanfic I think they also hit on a different point that for all the narratives and failures of "Ron da Future", Trump's run up in polling from his nadir really coincides with a big change in how the focus groups were talking about him I think this factor is quite underpriced, in that the whole electoral narrative on the right revolves around Trump since the indictments, and the supposed Trump opposition fan those flames by echoing Trump's own talking points. Why should GOP voters think anything else when all the GOP candidates and influences say Trump is a victim? This is where the Tucker/Murdoch/Ron stories are so interesting. The GOP elites have much less power than we think because Trump doesn't need Fox.
Something which should be mentioned regarding the Trump Trials and their support, is how the Dems and DOJ (and media) are dealing with the Menendez case. And then ask/compare it to Reps (and media) with the Trump Trials. Yeah, most will retain their cognitive dissonance, but some won't. And the more we do that, the more we get at the margins.
And it's more than that too. For example, a Democrat state house impeached Blagojevich, and Trump pardoned him of his crimes.
